It was educational and informative. It wasn't until you mentioned it as being an ad that I went back to see who actually wrote the article. You increased it's effectiveness by focusing on it...and now even further. ;)

So, sick people will have more storage space?
I went through them all and posted earlier. Maybe you had less patience because you were getting upset ablutions the wordy slides?
and practice, practice, practice.
Google didn't need search.com. 37Signals didn't need basecamp.com. If mint.com were mintybooks.com you would have found it anyway.
The owners of schoolbinder.com wanted a ridiculous amount. We went with myschoolbinder.com. People are finding us. Were making money.
I wouldn't spend much on it. Find another catchy name.
It is 2010. I'm sure there are apps that were a success after 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, and some after a year or two of pivoting.
If its an innovative and useful idea users "get it" almost immediately.
If it's not as innovative and you're building an app that is improving another idea it will take more time for users to see it, try it, and switch.
I don't think there is a magic number.
Interesting. I'd like to see videos of the gameplay and stats on performance, load times, lag etc.
The Netflix of gaming consoles?
I guess this makes us HN readers savages!
I personally think they should focos on bands, musicians, and teenagers.
Regardless of whether or not its a good move by MySpace, i think its a little low class of FB not to send their CEO. Yes we all know the almighty FB is king and the MySpace is now officially making it known that they are riding 'bitch.' It's almost like they are proving a point.
I personally don't like it.
GREAT point. I thought that was just with my users.
Pavs, I totally agree with you. Gmail, Chrome, Search and iOS were late. I was all over them when they came out too.
I was all over Wave and still think they should have slowly integrated its features into Gmail.
I was excited to get my hands on those first releases but I'm just not feeling any of their new stuff.
Great point on this article. FB is starting to remind me of AOL. AOL users didn't care that you could run IE outside of AOL WWW or that you could use Thunderbird instead of AOL mail. Just make it simple and keep it simple. Good job.
I guess everyone has to have one of these too :/
Is it just me or is anyone else sick of seeing the same features being developed on different platforms? Can't google and Facebook fill different spaces?
Buzz was late. Hotpot is late. Where is the innovation Google? Slept on Gmail unification. Wave was awesome but released the wrong way.
Google is starting to make the same mistakes Netscape made. They should stop trying to be another Facebook and continue doing what they do best.
I already have Facebook and Twitter. Give me a better online office app and keep kicking ass with Gmail and Search!
I'm just saying ;)
Everyone is saying that they might be on their way back to the garage and I agree except that the driver should have the off-duty light on at that point. They should pull over and explain "Hey I'm on my way back to the garage but I can take you if its close"
Note On the cabby's behalf: If you rent and drive a yellow cab it cost you $150 to get in it. You have to fuel it up at the end of the shift so thats another $30-40 per shift.
At $5-10 per ride and assuming you can average 2 or 3 rides in an hour...it explains why they drive like maniacs and look to hustle.
Agreed. My mother-in-law owns a NYC cab. They get hit with complaints all the time...even when its not them and the person had the wrong cab number.
Cab drivers are guilty till proven innocent.
I thought he was just being funny on a Sunday morning.
I was going to guess something like $10K for a PG breakfast.
Making $500K per year at Bank of America and earning $20K a year with your side s-corp does not make you a small business owner that can help unemployment with a Bush tax cut.
Facebook has an advantage for two reasons:
1. Facebook ads point to other Facebook pages. 2. More people fill out their FB profiles than their Google profiles.
What you guys did deserves recognition because it was a gift to those who did not even notice the outage.
We should also give credit to Netflix and those who at least choose to notify their members. It is almost like the "honor system."
I never noticed so I didn't claim. I figured they should get "paid" for their honesty.
I know they don't love me but it's much better than what most do.
Why not do both? Give the credit and send the email.
I would look into another platform. My kids are older now so I couldn't recommend one without researching. I am sure there are plenty of good sites out there.
Also look into Ninjitsu, the Bujinkan, Ninpo, etc.
Go where you feel comfortable learning.
What good is an intense class if you can't get comfortable to learn?
So what if I wanted to use my Facebook contacts to see how many of my Facebook friends were on Buzz or Twitter?
Facebook wants us to use our Gmail username and password to import contacts from those services directly into their network but they don't want us importing our contacts into Twitter?
I don't get how that is not a greedy thing.
Ummm...they are my contacts.
"Facebook's reasoning for not providing an API" is because they want to protect me from other Facebook type companies? Really?
...or is it that they don't want us moving our data to another social network?
Let's get real. Facebook can spin it however they want. We all know what's up!
You are right the medium is free but it cost time. If a company hires a consultant for social marketing it cost them but on the other hand if a startup founder has time to spend they can do it themselves (for a while).
It can 'some-what' level the playing field because a small firm can play in that game unlike the advertising space.
Remember its a battle of OSes and not devices. When will we see iOS or Droid built into our TVs?
If it were just devices the iPhone would be out-selling each individual phone independently.
Ok, you are right Gloob. Real is a bad choice of words.
If the iPhone were available on every carrier their would be a lot more people using the iPhone. It's almost like its every carrier and every phone manufacturer vs Apple.
Don't get me wrong, if I were in contract at Sprint or Verizon I would be on Droid also.
I have invested money in applications (not a whole lot). Switching platforms would also mean finding new software and purchasing some of them.
