Great idea and nice execution. Suggestion: add SSL / HTTPS to your website if you're collecting all this sensitive stuff about me.
Seems like you're taking lala.com head on. I happened to think they are really innovative in the cloud music service space.
What is different about your site?
Clay Shirky did a fantastic talk at Web 2.0 last year on this very topic:
You should apply to intern here: http://ict.usc.edu/internships/
I did it in '99 and '01. Then I was hired fulltime out of school and worked there for three years. Most definately an awesome place for a creative person with Computer Science and Psychology background.
I don't ever promote because in the last month or so, when I am logged in to HN, each page load takes about 20-35 seconds.
That kind of performance keeps me logged out. Can someone shed some light on why it is so slow?
This is so true.
Yeah but won't that only work for pushing out messages to phones? What if you want two-way communication with your app?
I also use Dreamhost for my secondary stuff. It's great as a staging server although you don't have full control over the server. If anybody wants $50 off the first year (that makes it reeeeeeallllyyy cheap per month), you can use the promo code LIFEHACKER.
For virtual dedicated, I use Slicehost (http://www.slicehost.com) to host The Photo Stream (http://www.thephotostream.com) and they have been excellent for the past two months.
Hey Cousin,
I made it scroll :-)
Scott
Yeah one of the things I am working on is ways to do two things:
1) See "more" than the 28 newest on the homepage.
AND
2) See when people click / add stories to the stream.
http://www.thephotostream.com could change the way people consume their daily web.
The Photo Stream delivers buzz and newsworthy content to the masses through a rich, eye-opening photo interface.
This is a good fit for the free advertising space because although The Photo Stream is in the "photo" space -- we're not a photo host.
Working on http://www.thephotostream.com. Suggestions, comments are welcome!
Has anyone used this for hosting? Can you give some pros/cons?
Why not do both? I work for a large internet company during the day. When I get home at home, the coding continues on my personal projects.
I think that's what Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft mean when they are looking for people with "self-started" projects.
