The point isn't just to make a game, but learn how all how it all works under the hood. He's stated multiple times throughout Handmade Hero that you probably don't want to make a game that way.

Don't spend... how many years has it been now, nearly ten? On a debug room that looks like a high school CS project.

If you add all the hours up from every episode it's less than a years worth of work...

Honestly, I couldn't say Johnny. I'm not a graphics engineer, just a hobbyist game programmer who works in construction, but I did so some internet searching and came across some blogs that I found interesting.

I'm also interested into more of these "teach yourself x" curriculums if anyone has anymore to share. There's so many things I want to learn and I'm someone who likes (needs?) structure. Here's a few that I know of.

I'm 32 and recently over the last 3 months have made a successful workout habit at home after ~10 years of trying. I just do whatever I feel like doing now. I use to try to follow some program to the t, but could never follow through. Now I just youtube some random workout, wether it's with dumbbells, bodyweight, HIIT, yoga, going for a walk or whatever. It really doesn't matter for me anymore, as long as I'm doing something everyday even if its only for a short period of time.

If you don't care what language you're starting with, but rather just want a good introduction to programming then I can't recommend Daniel Shiffman's[0] Learning Processing[1] book enough. It uses Java and Processing[2] to make visual interactive programs instead of the traditional text-based programs.

Progressive exposure to social situations that make me uncomfortable. I think this is known as exposure therapy? The idea is to just put myself in more situations that are just slightly outside my comfort zone. So starting a conversation with the cashier at the store or barber or something like that and then progressively pushing my comfort with something a more challenging.

Every year I like to write out my long-term (5-10 year) goals down and then pick 2 or 3 of them to focus on for the year. Then break them down into monthly, weekly, and daily goals/habits. For 2023 I chose to work on over coming my social anxiety which has some how gotten really bad and work on changing careers into another field (currently in construction).

Our team has been working with Epic on Easy Anti-Cheat + Proton support over the last few months, and we're happy to announce that adding Steam Deck support to your existing EAC games is now a simple process, and doesn't require updating game binaries, SDK versions, or integration of EOS. Alongside our BattlEye updates from last year, this means that the two largest anti-cheat services are now easily supported on Proton and Steam Deck

To make it easy for developers to ship their games across PC platforms, support for the Wine and Proton compatibility layers on Linux is included. Starting with the latest SDK release, developers can activate anti-cheat support for Linux via Wine or Proton with just a few clicks in the Epic Online Services Developer Portal.

Body Doubling 4 years ago

This reminds me of a joke from comic Sebastian Maniscalco called Doorbell (it's on YouTube) about how people reacted to having someone ring their doorbell today vs 20 years ago. He talks about how 20 years ago we'd be excited by an unexpected guess ringing our doorbell versus today we'd be more incline to being upset. Really recommended giving the joke a gander for a good laugh.

Yes! The books if I remember correctly are designed around solving a lot of problems first and foremost.

Taken from the description of one of their books:

"The text is structured to inspire the reader to explore and develop new ideas. Each section starts with problems, giving the student a chance to solve them without help before proceeding. The text then includes solutions to these problems, through which algebraic techniques are taught. Important facts and powerful problem solving approaches are highlighted throughout the text. In addition to the instructional material, the book contains well over 1000 problems."
