Love the sentiment here. Whoever is reading this should try disabling all notifications ever.

There really isn’t a need to know when someone messages you or you get news.

Doing this helps you focus more both for work but also for chill time.

Glad to see it being featured here. Been a big fan since the beginning.

Probably already mentioned before (lazy to scroll) but if you’re building something and need icons don’t just use one package.

If you’re building in React or a compatible JSX library use react icons (https://react-icons.github.io/react-icons/).

It lets you pick and choose from many packs (Feather included) and if you’re careful with your selections you can meet pretty much all needs in a cohesive way. Until you can afford an in house designer :P

I had a small project hosted in Heroku. After the whole debacle with security I wanted to get ahead of any more potential disruptions and migrated over to AWS EC2 + RDS + Dokku. Being my first time with AWS, I thought it was more straightforward than I thought. RDS seemed like a nice early optimization too (and also mimics how Heroku handles Databases normally by having a separate server for them off the get-go).

Sorry it took me a while to respond.

I will try not to get too philosophical by first getting “work productivity” out of the equation. You must have tools for work productivity and maybe that’s the focus of OP.

There is the concept of “life productivity” which involves your personal projects, hobbies, your life plans, family, etc.

These are goals and aspirations which are deeply connected to your fulfillment. You can’t really put these in buckets of tasks. In fact, the mere notion of doing so sets you up for failure in many cases.

Imagine getting out of work where you look at a wall of todos to complete just to look at another. It’s exhausting and uninspiring.

By rejecting that concept and instead focusing on inspiration, curation with some level of organization and mapping you are building something something that more closely resembles your priorities and that continues to make you feel proud and happy about your past, present, and future accomplishments.

Happy to chat more about this if you’d like.

I’ve been working on my own take on “knowledge bases” with a more personal, visual approach: Bleep [1]. I’m glad to see tools focusing less on productivity/work and more on personal growth and happiness.

Privacy is hard. I’d love to give e2e encryption off the get-go but that makes it difficult to scale up and build advanced search functionality for a small team. Would be interesting to see how Anytype or similar tools accomplish it.

Definitely the intention. I really like are.na’s concept but was hoping to have something more multi-purpose and accessible visually.

Really glad to see apps that help you explore your thoughts without feeling like productivity. This is a trend that will continue growing.

Shameless plug on an app I’m working on: Bleep (https://www.bleep.is)

Similar concept though different execution - customization + organization in a way that doesn’t feel like a productivity tool which is what I think Kinopio is aiming towards. Definitely an inspiration for me!

Remarkable owner here. RM display doesn't anti-alias actual pen strokes, pretty sure this makes the screen refresh faster. Everything else that is anti-alias tho is a bit slower to refresh.

I’m curious as to what made you choose Kinopio over Are.na. I use the latter a lot and find it really useful for unstructured thoughts. I mainly use it privately though.

Kinopio looks great I will take it for a spin soon.

Totally agree about it feeling like playing a game. It’s probably because of the combos and just how fast things can be when you move around! I use neovim but I’m sure the experience we have is the same.
