Yours is even less so. Like the parent, i found the story uninteresting. If anyone with a sad job got to the frontpage, goodbye IT news. In the end, if the guy thinks his job is sad, quit it, or campaign against evictions. Pretending to be sad and effectively asking for sympathy is ... i can't find the word.

TBH, i would like to see all the like/+1/tweet/digg buttons gone, they are a big privacy hazard. This functionality should be included in the browser or available from extensions.

The title of the original article is "A Higgs Setback: Did Stephen Hawking Just Win the Most Outrageous Bet in Physics History?", nothing like "RIP Higgs". The article, at best, is trying to be provocative. But, more importantly, you believe in god?

The article isn't just about spotify, but anyway, bandwidth usage is a concern now, but certainly as bandwidth goes up there will be more and more services taking advantage of P2P for faster and better service. It's not necessarily a bad thing.

Actually the difference is not that big. It's all in our brain anyway, and most virtual experiences evoke similar brain responses as real ones (theater, TV, cinema, mirror neurons etc). What virtual items lose is fine properties like touch, smell, permanence etc.

I think the bigger problem is both city planning and immobile technology: most of us are forced to live packed away from the nature in cities planned for the long-gone industrial era, and until recently we were forced to sit in front of our heavy information devices. I believe the mobile revolution is going to bring back a lot of those "physical" elements that we are missing now.

It's not the first time societies face transfomations. We already eat virtual food, i certainly don't remember slaughtering that many chicken, pigs and cows lately, and i 've only milked a goat once or twice in my life.

This is no more cognitive than any artificial neural network we have until now. The only innovation is lower power consumption. So, it's just a power-friendly artificial neural network simulator. I would really like to see details about the abilities of these processors (why aren't they available anywhere?). When they say "programmable synapses" do they mean they have a programmable weight? Real synapses are not nearly like that, with very intricate computational abilities that come from the dynamics of presynaptic release and postsynaptic binding. I thought Google+ was more like twitter. It seems Google+ envies facebook's "intimate friend groups" that cause people to upload personal photos and events. Alas they don't realize that people are under "social fatigue" right now after five years of frenzy. They are copying something that is already going out of fashion. Anyway it's crazy. In practice a default will have similar effects as the austerity packages, compressed in time (~4 years instead of 10+ which the current austerity packages propose). In fact, a devalued currency might stimulate internal growth as imports will become unaffordable.

Greece did not bail out any banks, it was the government that was lending recklessly, not the private sector. There are many people who claim greece should not pay back its debt but there is no moral or legal ground to that. There are only 2 options: more lending or a default. Guess which one doesn't work.

I agree. Their platform changes more often than their underwear. A wiki would be very helpful. I hate to search for a problem and find 10 different solutions all of which have been deprecated. Curiously, even in the old documentation wiki developers were not allowed to edit pages. I think there must be some FB development wikis out there, lost in obscurity.

I believe as long as iOS exists, google will be pushing Android to assert their dominance. I guess that's why they still don't really push chromeOS. (Do any chromeos laptops exist?)
