The "nuanced" argument you're responding to at least gives a window into why LLMs all talk about this same sort of nonsense and have this same bias. This kind of thinking is absolutely rampant these days -- especially on Reddit, which makes up a large portion of the training data.

I think this is a scenario where if you have to ask, you'll never know. Perhaps, ironically, there just wasn't enough immediate stimulation for you to continue...

You can't imagine that someone working on something like this would slow down as the work neared completion? Why must a piece of software / code constantly be changing? What's your specific concern? You're making a very strong claim that the "project has stalled" without any real evidence. Furthermore, the project "stalling" makes it less... what, exactly?

This entire article is clickbait.

- Headline "My new car has a mysterious and undocumented switch".

No, this is not a new car. This is a used car. Finding undocumented switches in a vehicle someone else owned is very common. People modify their cars all the time. Finding an undocumented switch in a new car would be wild.

- "And that’s how the search comes to an end. After a bit of perseverance I figured out what it is."

You literally took your car to a dealership, and the mechanic told you what it was. This ENTIRE ARTICLE boils down to this statement. You did the bare minimum to investigate what it was: took the panel off and confirmed that the wires went __somewhere__.

How does this get upvoted so heavily on Hacker News?

Seemed like it would be interesting to read, but I slammed the back button once the butterfly (wtf), blur effect, and thin grey font on a white background overwhelmed me.

Please describe "normally". State machines can turn into nightmares, just like any design pattern used poorly.

Good call on being cautious here. Unfortunately, there isn't anything between this product and the most basic, basic, basic timer for you to test out if the pomodoro method would work for you.

I don't understand why the author seemingly takes offense that sending an untrained person into a high-stakes scenario isn't something most companies do.

Because then they wouldn't be able to write these sorts of outrage-porn clickbait articles with righteous indignation.

This kind of outrage is fun to read. Someone gets themselves all worked up after hearing an offhand comment. Then proceeds to take a few paragraphs to set up what a shining beacon of kindness and compassion and calm consideration they are, before ending the post with the truly measured "cautionary word" of: "don't say stupid shit".

Meanwhile, they never once addressed the central claim of the thing that made them so angry: some engineers aren't ready/willing to be customer facing. Instead they ranted about the benefits of introducing engineers to customers, all of which of course are true, but none of which address the original claim.

The self-importance of this person was beaming straight through my monitor the entire time.

Pretty sure a dog will eat through a toothache too, but no one has mentioned anything remotely like this situation. You're bending over backwards to rationalize the really odd behavior of invoking a dead puppy friend to encourage a dog to eat. They will eat when they're hungry.

And in your strange example, if this dog wasn't eating due to a toothache, the parents are forcing the dog to anxiously eat through the pain of a toothache.

I think adding a note that there's an end would go a long way. I personally tried it once, killed something like 100 ants, thought "That's cute, but not interested in clicking on ants endlessly", and closed the game well before I lost.

They're not "practicing murder". They're not "practicing killing you". Stop with this hyperbolic nonsense. The military practices murder, not you and your mates in your local BJJ class.

Do you say these things to make yourself feel cooler/tougher when you inevitably tell someone you practice BJJ? And I'm sure they didn't ask, you just worked it into the conversation (much like this post) because you can't wait to tell everyone you practice murder.

Since the OP never once mentioned CBT, why did you feel the need to give such a detailed description of the difference between the two? Why not go ahead and talk about the differences between ACT and the dozen other therapies out there?

The comments in this thread are so hyperbolic as to lead me to believe there's no value in reading them except for entertainment value:

Student loans are an aspect of generational warfare

one can no more live without education than without water

Student loans should be illegal

As someone pointed out elsewhere, their very own comment makes this implication:

Smart people want to solve their own problems

Your spouse does not want to know how it works so that they can fix it themselves

Thank God some superheros have finally come along to make sure code never crashes any computers ever again! /s

What a cute take. As if seeing the problems and being given the authority to solve them always came in pairs.

My guess is you're one of the interviewers/employees he was talking about in the article.

I came here to say the same thing. What insight do these diagrams provide? They always struck me as a useless but flashy visualization that you would put in front of your company to make people believe Important Work is happening inside.

You haven't provided enough context (if there even could be enough) to answer this question. You asked if it "would be okay". No one can answer this question for you. What does "be okay" even mean?

Focus on the content of the portfolio and don't sweat the invisible details.

If the title were "Is Everything Behavioral Science?" I certainly would have answered the question myself with a "no" and then moved on with my day. Instead, I was fooled into clicking on the article with the false hope that this would be an interesting take on the rise of bullshit.

Can someone update the title to be less clickbait?
