For feature depends on JS Decorator, that involves transformation, what are those? I saw enums and namespaces. Any list?

Why does the battery saver mode in Android Go require the phone to operate in dark mode? It claims that this will save the power. However it is not true in most cases as majority of low cost Android Go phones have IPS display, not AMOLED display.

What is the technical or business reasonings of this feature? a misunderstanding from teams within google? or the fact that dark mode can save power for both IPS and AMOLED displays?

It looks like the mass market prefers huge 6in screen and big battery. I have difficulty to find new Android phone that does not make my not-so-big palm tired. I do not need big screen and battery, I will use my laptop or tv to watch videos. The closest decent model in this region is Xiaomi 11 Lite,150g, not too thick nor too wide, snapdragon 732 cpu, etc. It is around usd 250. I did a bit of g search, most of mini phones from other brands are either not produced anymore, low spec, too niche, etc.

I wish others would make something decent, similar to iphone se.

I think the prevalence of social media in the last 10 years has not been good for people like me, commonly hang out in HN. Sometimes I wish internet can be reset before the culture of success glorification swept the mass.

On my spare time, I will cook healthy food, watch K-drama, sleep well, drive around in the suburb, and hang out with my family. Hopefully it helps others. Sorry, I also have not found the elixir of life, but those things help.

I think that statement by avighnay is misleading to the readers. Ethnically, South East Asians are definitely not south asian. We can find filipino with mostly western names, malaysian with arabic names, indonesian with old sanskrit names, others with chinese names. however, their ethnicity? hmm

For those who are aware of South East Asian's history, they are influenced by the Indian and Culture culture for the past two millennia, in addition to their own local culture. We can find some traces of Hindu-influence temples AD 800-1500, Chinese trading since Tang Dynasty onwards, even western culture during AD 1500 onwards.

Matte screen is a major factor when I buy laptops and monitor as I spend a lot of time in text editor, articles, ebooks.

However, it is difficult to read if I bring my laptop outdoor in the cafe last time, during BC period (Before Coronavirus).

In addition to laptop and 20inch matte lcd monitor, I also have 43inch TV that I use to discuss design with my partner. It's good for short term, but I still prefer my matte screens for long usage.

During the day, my cat will sit behind me while I am coding in Javascript. We practise mentoring system. He can focus in it, not disturbed by the cooked chicken. I think both of us may have ADD/ADHD.

My black cat stays quiet in the living room when I am around. However, once I go to bedroom, he will move around in the house, making lots of noise. His hiding place can be the dark sofa, in front of big tv, etc.

Looking at those cockpit photos, I suddenly remember that I sat in F18 cockpit during one of the public military show. It is small, I barely fit into it, those pilots must be slim. Cockpit also looked a bit rundown/worn off, not sure the design itself or simply wear and tear.

Anyone has experience in running WPE as your daily driver in W10 laptop or Debian desktop or raspberry or Android phone? I want a further optimized webkit/chromium engine browser that uses less memory, more responsive, less ui clutter, no tracking, no extra features. I just want a simple browser.

WPE claims to focus on embedded and low-consumption computer.

Where can I get a nice optimized precompiled binary for the common platforms? I tried luakit in raspberry, very slow, even slower than default chromium.

I agree on that. If the definition is on modern web with ES2020, TLS 1.2, etc, it limits the choice to Firefox and Chrome. This will exclude any computer that does not have at least:

a. 2gb of ram as my raspberry pi with 1gb ram cannot handle more than 4 tabs in chromium responsively.

b. ssd, connecting to SATA, it makes my 10-year-old thinkpad feels new.

c. enough cpu power to handle 2mb of js

d. hdmi connector

That limits the choices to computers not older than 15 years old, plus minus several years.

I didn't really have practical experience in mongodb. However, after checking latest mongodb documentation, it seems they have magically solved those issues in the last few years

how about these assumptions or myths?

a. treat it as in-memory document database. expect to lose data if it does not successfully write to disk periodically.

b. concurrent reading and writing. it claims that it is resolved for specific scenario in multiple document-level concurrency,while put a lock on single document issue.

c. Total data storage should not be bigger than memory, although it was fixed in v3.2 with new database engine.

d. multi document queries introduced in 4.2 and 4.4, however it is conflicting with their own recommendations that says Each document should be independent, denormalized data model.

I like their syntax, feel so natural. postgres jsonb syntax is unreadable, a bit hacky for me. should i be concerned with mongodb myths?

As much as I want to learn new languages, it looks like my brain is not cooperating. Either the syntax is hard to read (eg ruby or elixir) or articulating the same solution (eg python) in Javascript much easier.

Any suggestions on which practical language to complement Javascript for web dev? Also, use cases for functional programming language, is it even useful?

Does it support local standalone mode? or something like personal codepen server? did not feel comfortable to keep code there with recent disruption of major cloud providers.
