Keyword is scale, specifically massive scale. If your scope is just a couple of (web)servers, then, yeah, you can stick with your tried-and-tested tools and processes. But once you start managing 10s or 100s of servers, including a requirement to recover (i.e., redeploy) them ASAP after an outage, then your basic tools and processes might not be enough…
