Found this while looking for resources to track NREM vs REM sleep per night at home and thought it was pretty ridiculously cool — anyone have experience with a sleep tracking headband that can do this and summarize results?

It occurred to me that some in the HN community might actually jump on this and use it to kick-start a new project -- a consistent location to eat and code at a ridiculously low price.

I take zero responsibility for any negative health outcomes that might come from your Date with Django happening over Applebees food, though.

I'll second/third the feature request for auto-including auth headers/calls (as many of the sites I'm trying to understand/use APIs from use persistent keys, and scraping these separately is just unnecessary extra time).

On that same note, I'd greatly appreciate keeping the initial request as a "sample request" within the spec.

I'd also greatly appreciate an option to attempt to automatically scrape for required fields (e.g. try removing each query variable one at a time, look for errors, document them).

Good point -- if you're shipping it direct to the recipient, yes, it might be pretty easy to identify "for someone else" -- but that's a post-purchase nugget of knowledge.

When you buy as a gift though, you probably ship to yourself first in many cases, right?

Do you feel like a single prompt at the start of your shopping journey would turn you off/be a blocker?

E.g. "Are you shopping today for yourself or someone else?" as an entry gate.

I'll start: usually shop for myself, plus shop for gifts for others.

I do, however, share links with friends and family when I find something that is an amazing product/service at a good value.

I'd love to tell websites who I am shopping for if it means I'll get better recommendations/have a smoother experience.

Posted this based on an agent I know mentioning that she’s effectively taken the last four days off because the lack of MLS makes her job “nearly impossible to do properly.” She said many at her agency are doing the same.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this shows up in major economic indicators this month.

Makes sense for her (and potentially for the company as an immediate fix), but the environmental impact here is pretty significant too.

Given this change will now keep cable boxes on by default for all users, we're now burning 19.6kWh (their stat) per box, per year, and there are ~16 million customers (ignoring that most customers have more than one box), so they just increased wasted power by at least ~80% of that (yes, they have a power saver mode, but you have to opt-in to it, and I'll bet <5% of users do that).

... so somewhere in the neighborhood of 19.6kWh * 16 million boxes * 80% unused time per day * 95% of users who don't opt-in = 238,336,000kWh (238.3GWh)

Made a deck about e-commerce funnel analysis.

Bunch of the images are clearly copyrighted, from sources I’d get in trouble for using — not to mention they are medical-related, not e-commerce related.

I’d suggest sourcing images only when they’re legally used.

Also long and run-on without the traditional “table of contents” slide and/or “thank you” slide which are must-haves.

Otherwise, this was pretty cool and I can see how it’d work as a great template for further tuning.

AI is only as smart as it’s programming (which can be pretty darned smart, but this AI wasn’t trained to deal with people who are trying to break it).

Makes sense -- is there anyone who has experience in gov't IT that can weigh in here on what protocols/practices are in place to reveal changes/mitigate dangers?

If they could have, they didn't during the invasion -- a not-insignificant number of videos on Twitter/Facebook/TikTok showing individuals actively gaining access to machines in the buildings. I'd really like to know about how this can be handled from a national security perspective, but not finding any resources that can teach what protocol is/needs to be in this case.

Genuinely curious to hear if anyone has knowledge of what security protocols are like/how sandboxed each of those machines are/what is likely to be done to verify that keyloggers weren't installed -- and how quickly something like that can be done, as most of those lawmakers rely on those machines for completing their daily work.
