As someone who's recently made the move to China (Hong Kong, and not teaching English), I can say it's a great way for native English speakers to jump start their careers and get responsibilities much faster than at home.

Hong Kong is a bit easier getting used to due to a free internet, less pollution, and stricter food safety laws. But I guess there are more opportunities on the mainland.

I haven't come to a good answer for this myself, but lately, I've been wanting a simple phone more and more, one which doesn't clash with the feature-set of the tablet. One that does simple things, like syncing, texting, and calling, really well. With an insane battery life. Design-wise, it has to be clean and beautiful, both the phone itself, and its UI.

It lasts a little more than a day, regular usage, not too much gaming. I noticed that the latest 2.3.4 ROM really helped boost battery life.

From what I can gather, the MIUI SGS2 port isn't officially supported by MIUI, and has a few bugs and issues. Do you think it's good enough to use on a day-to-day basis?

Some of my recommendations:

- Hacker News Reader by Corey Trager. Currently the only client that works for me.

- DrioidWall, sort of like LittleSnitch for the Mac, you can block apps from accessing the internet.

- JuiceDefender. Some say that it doesn't work, but after customizing the settings, I find extends my battery pretty well.

- Douban.fm. Good online radio app for those of us outside US without access to Pandora et al. Chinese startup so speeds can be slower at times.

- For my todo list, I use Flick Note as a widget extended to cover an entire homescreen (with TouchWiz 4.5), synced to Simple Note. I also use Flick Note for all other note-taking needs, and have frozen/disabled a few default apps with similar features. On my Macs I use Notational Velocity to edit the list and GeekTools to display on my dekstop.

Actually, Hangzhou is a very rich city by Chinese standards due to their entrepreneurial culture. Despite "only" having 2 million inhabitants, LV sells the most items in Hangzhou compared to all other Chinese cities. Also, their more central streets are lined with luxury car shops.

$20/day does not seem too unreasonable for local Hangzhounese.

I think you are overestimating the average computer user. As personal computing and broadband access has risen quickly, so have the class of technophobes.

Also, a product will seldom sell itself. The Skype brand has plenty of intangible value, for instance from their collaboration with Oprah.
