The insertion rates were based on the elasticsearch backend, with multiple shards/nodes (using the already flattened image signatures). Don't remember specifics unfortunately. I never tried it with more than 5 lightness buckets, sorry!

Help us improve our analysis pipeline by extracting data from construction equipment directly. We are searching for someone with experience in vehicle interfaces to develop and extend our ability to extract internal messages of the CAN (Controller area network) bus present on e.g. earth-moving machines, and then convert this information into analyzable, actionable metrics and log entries.

This position will involve occasional fieldwork developing connectivity solutions to construction equipment and making sure our existing CAN loggers are functioning correctly. A big part of this position is also helping us make sense of the often partially documented and proprietary message formats used by different vendors within their vehicles.

corrux is a data analytics company focused on the construction space. We are developing solutions to leverage the increasing amounts of data being collected on construction sites to increase efficiency and prioritize equipment maintenance.

The current construction industry UX for equipment maintenance is dated (see examples [1] and [2]) and fragmented. You'll have the opportunity to drastically improve this experience for project managers and people on the ground.

We are searching for our first frontend developer. We have written a dashboard in Grafana for demo purposes, but we need to create a full-fledged platform to flexibly display sensor readings from construction assets alongside maintenance alerts generated by our machine-learning models. Based on customer contact we are strongly opinionated on how the application should look and act (we hope you view this as a positive), but you'll have considerable freedom in picking the stack. Most of our backend infrastructure is hosted on Azure.

We're looking for someone with a few years experience and a couple shipped products under their belt. Hiring experience is also desirable, since you'll be helping to build out the frontend team in the coming months. Yes, in fact that's one of our main use-cases. The behavior right now is very simple: it just looks in the target directory for the latest checkpoint. So if you're checkpointing regularly, you should be fine. We may implement a checkpoint selector or something more sophisticated in the future if it turns out lots of people are using it that way.

Hi everyone, I'm the author of the underlying image matching library ( https://github.com/ascribe/image-match ). First, thank you Alex for your contribution -- it makes image-match much more useful for the typical user.

Just to answer a couple of questions in the comments:

Goldberg's algorithm (the one used in the image-match library) is not very robust against arbitrary rotation -- around +/- 5 degrees should be ok. 90 degree rotations, mirror images, and color inversion are handled with the `all_orientations` parameter but under the hood this is just manipulating the image array and searching multiple times.

Even though the hash is a vector, and the similarity is a vector distance, when it's time to search for an image, we don't compute every distance. The hash vector is binned into integer "words" and we lookup against these columns. Only if there is a hit is the full signature computed. You can find more details in the Goldberg paper ( http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~hcwong/Pdfs/icip02.ps ).

Our original use case was a web image crawler, and hopefully we can release that code someday too. In the meantime, if you decide to roll your own crawler, be sure to Elasticsearch's bulk API ( https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/curr... ) for the crawlers so as not to burden the Elasticsearch cluster too much. We were able to get well over 10k inserts/s on a 5-node Elasticsearch cluster (I don't remember how many worker nodes...the whole thing is IO limited waiting for images to download for processing, so there is even more optimization to be had there).

Thank you for the suggestion. I actually did try restricting the terms by measuring correlation between columns -- the idea being that more discriminating terms should be searched first. This did result in modest speedups.

Fortunately or unfortunately, we were already achieving pretty good speed with Elasticsearch so we didn't implement it. However, it didn't occur to me to try a MoreLikeThis query, which should be even simpler -- I will look into it!
