They are beyond 12 miles, this region is not territorial waters but international. They don't have the final say, except in matters relevant to their customs, commerce and artificial islands. If this was in a sea shared by two nations, i m sure the situation would be a lot more complicated.

But i guess it can send a ship and station it there , and the us could not lawfully capture it unless certain conditions were met. The US is not a signatory to UNCLOS so this is hypothetical. I am also sure the US and russia are frequent visitors of each other from international waters near Alaska.

Ignorance is a bliss, really. We are badly wired to agonized over the the future. It 's comforting to know generally that the future is pretty much deterministic , in fact it is already there waiting for our timelines to cross it, mechanistically. Thinking of an idealized future on the other hand is quite self-serving . It makes one feel good, but it's not real , it s just a fantasy like any other.

i think we should switch to talking about information , not data. data is like photons, they are mediators. An agent owns his information content which is his internal thoughts and intentions. Everything he makes in your online property is a trace. The traces belong to the owner of the online property. Just like how your footsteps on my home belong to me, while your foot belongs to you. Data are measurements of those traces, thus they belong to you as well. The self-ownership of the agent's information content is not compromised.

Those markets are also lacking tons of cash to literally buy the market. And those competitors easily develop their own network effects. It doesnt look like there is huge lock in here, of the scale of e.g. facebook. There is a case to be made that uber is replaceable.
