Maybe the whole windows/linux thing is an apt comparison? Linux is OS and arguably runs the internet yet windows is still a cash cow. The paid-for models are like windows, the OS models are like linux?
Isn't that the documentary that cited a study saying all snow would disappear forever from Earth by the year 2013?
Propertly testing and reviewing code is a must with AI, it's actually more important. I don't know why the author feels like it's assumed that this goes out the window with AI
Am I just a luddite, because this seems really far-fetched to me:
In reality, behind the scenes, the curve is NOT flattening at all; the exponential growth will continue
every other technical leap hit walls where the exponential growth stopped
I really want to know what would've happened with an npm install, I guess something boring like crypto mining or identity theft?
It's point is highlighting a common issue that is becoming widespread due to AI tool proliferation. I have the same exact issues. I used to love sinking into deep work mode but now that's gone.
The engineer’s advantage, the ability to translate a domain model into working code, is now cheap.
I say this as someone who uses AI a lot. Its still a far cry from cheap, especially with that pesky “working” word in there.
You're describing project-level shared resources, there are local versions of that like CLAUDE.local.md which should be gitignored
Does anyone really believe that Slawk is a "replica of approximately 95% of Slack’s core product"??
I legitametly thought it was Dolt until you pointed it out
this is so so sad on many levels
If i have to read one more "It isn't this. It's this" My head will explode. That phrase is the real singularity
are hard-drugs a design pattern?
China is way ahead on what exactly? Regulation?
Not saying anything about the actions themselves just pointing out what’s objectively true.
A private citizen given a power to destroy organisations that overlook that citizens businesses?
Except he had no power to do this? In the end the executive branch had to authorize anything coming out of DOGE. Like it or not, elected officials (Trump) rubber stamped the cuts.
you'll need to privatize the tasks / services which government agencies used to provide
Most of what DOGE cut was stuff no one wanted or needed in the first place. Just scroll their twitter feed, cutting this stuff shouldn't be termed as "smaller government".
likely contributed to the Gen Z turnout that helped win in 2024
This is way over-estimated. There's a number of talking heads on the right that Gen Z listens to. For every Charlie Kirk, there's five others.
Quit it with the fear mongering
For a profession that has improved the world so much, we are a pessimistic lot aren’t we?
very likely your technical people are smarter than your product people
I'm guessing you work in the technical side of things?
Quit social media and news for a week and then see how you feel
Just put the code out in open source, I don’t see how that could be subject to a cease and desist
I wish he would put the code out on github, does tht break laws if its not actively doing it?
At the end of his shpeel he talks about how to adopt new technologies intelligently. He's not saying that no one ever should but that you need to go about it a certain way to reduce risk.
You have to have a focus on strong families. If the child has parents or guardians who are aware of what they're doing and will stop them from doing it then there wouldn't really be a problem in the first place at least with five year olds
