Interesting that two of the most powerful techniques which can essentially kill chat GPT : Orca and Textbooks, both come from Microsoft.

I have been using Helix editor for last three months {was a sublime user earlier} and am really liking it. Its LSP is faster than Sublime, needs minimal setup and very similar to vim. I knew Vim from my engineering days but the configuration part of Vim kept me away from using it and thus using sublime. Helix solved that specific problem.

I guess their issue is that due to the professor's clout, its hard for them to say no to do work at t&m they are no longer comfortable at [maybe even for free]. That's why the 'powerplay' ref ? I know that can be frustrating because I worked with a professor once who wanted me to work a lot before giving me clarity about money/cred.

If I may ask, do you have any book which has solutions of some of these hard integrals so that one can get a knack of ways to solve them than just start from first principles like by-parts ? Nntaleb and his twitter followers also often discuss solutions by methods which were not taught in Calculus 2.

It would be great idea to see one such book if it doesn't exist.

Same with me. I even go ahead and save articles as PDF and come back to about 1% of these PDFs when I read later. The other 99% are never touched.

Pretty sure this is related to ADHD. Its as if collecting information creates the big picture view the mind finds it hard to develop reading just one source.

I actually plan to take a week off and do nothing but quick read PDFs related to each relevant topic every year. That's my resolution for 2023.

Given the only entity you think of India to be is a Nation State, it didn't. Which for most "west" educated people is the only type of state that can exist. But entities can exist beyond concept of a Nation State. Unfortunately, its not very easy to unlearn years of "one good way" to think.

Did Germany exist during Roman Empire or during Holy Roman Empire ? It did not as a nation state, but the people almost always felt connected.

India had much stronger bonds among people than say typical Germany, the religion/culture had elements from the entire nation, created by leaders from different parts of continent. Hinduism has verses conveying rivers and Gods from around the subcontinent as important aspects of life. Adi Shakaracharya, the religious teacher who is considered the person who made Hinduism the dominant form from among other existing interpretations of "Dharma" belongs to the southernmost tip of the region and created hindu institutions in all corners of subcontinent.

This was discovered in modern day Pakistan [then British India]. You could argue that this is a part of Pakistan's history, but what is Pakistan's History then ?

You can somewhat imagine if a Mesopotamian state survived till today, parts of it unconverted to Islam in a sub area of fertile crescent. Would you call it the successor state to entire Mesopotamia or you would say Uruk history is not their history because the region is now part of nation state of Iraq. That is the case with India as well ! There is a reason we read Mesopotamian history as a composite and as a different topic than say Egyptian History, because Mesopotamia was a different and connected civilization. Institutions like that don't survive now and hence a modern western scholar has no ontology to relate it to, but India exists as an outlier. That is the reason what most orientalists write and what we observe on ground about India are super disconnected.

I worked fulltime in Python (Deep Learning and web services for around 10 years) and used Go for some projects in past. I recently introduced Rust as a language for some server side logic and desktop app. Some observations: 1. Rust coding takes time. Something you would write in an hour in Python would take a day in Rust. 2. Rust code is almost always faster. 3. Rust almost will never cause an exception in production if you are not just doing unwraps and expects everywhere. This sometimes feels a lot of work while coding. In python, I almost always end up solving some production exceptions despite of writing tests. Not a fault with Python btw, you could always write better tests. 4. Writing Python is more enjoyable. However, you know you will never be able to write stuff in Python that you can in Rust. I think of Rust as a good compromise for a Python programmer to write low level code without learning C++. Being productive in C++ will take years, being productive in Rust takes a few months. Rust is like C++ but written with high level language features. 5. There are other fast languages which would be better for a Python developer like Nim, but they have no library ecosystem. Rust has almost got a good library for everything I need it for (just like Python).

I am not sure whether I agree with the analysis, maybe will take more time to process whether the pixels metric really means efficiency.

However, one interesting point is that the author concludes "Hebrew" and "Gujrati" are the most efficient languages. The cultures to which these languages belong are both stereotyped to be very efficient and pragmatic businesspeople. So maybe they have a general culture which reflects in their day to day activities, even writing.

What I have realized overtime is that desire to be normal just causes stress. One needs to admit that they are different from others and they will have to play the game [life] with the cards they are dealt with. ADHD is no disability IMO, but different enough from normal people to become very incompatible.

Just this acceptance to oneself relieves a lot of stress. But it comes with some experience and I guess most ADHD people would just feel inadequate during teenage and in university. Its horrible when you feel there is so much to do and you cannot accomplish most of it. Its only when you find/realize that there are people who would treat over-accomplishment in some aspects as a fair trade to be not able to be good at everything.

Workspaces/Life Partners/Friends -- not everyone will work with ADHD people. They need to understand that they will have to spend parts of their life experimenting and finding a environment where they are valued. I guess that is the cost of being different in anyway.

I don't think that's what ADHD feels like at all. The best way I can describe ADHD is : 1. Poor Short Term Memory , 2. Inability to make oneself do certain things while being much more able than others to do certain other things and 3. Needing a big picture view before getting deep because 1 causes one to get lost in details.
