You sound like a bundle of joy. To me it all depends on the situation - but I’ve dealt w/ network engineers that really had no business being over it or any real understanding of Linux, ssh, tunnels, etc. He was constantly ignoring my work related requests that absolutely needed resolution in 4-48hrs so I just stopped communicating w/ him. The moment I gained access to a staging server that wasn’t locked down to hell & back I forwarded whatever ports & level of access that I needed. It’d have served the company better to give me the permissions to open up ports & access as I needed in the first place, devs need access to what they’re dev’ing or running against but given the level of quality people I was dealing w/ I just gave up & granted myself access in other ways vs opening up support tickets all the time.

I did recently gain access to an employee that was on it though & used common sense - sadly they’ve resigned & I don’t know why but I do know it’s a HUGE loss. They had some amazing side projects going on too - the guy was valuable imo & an effort to keep him should have been made if it hadn’t.

Tbh if your nodejs devs can’t handle some Python then you need better devs. I’d been happy to help!

Oh slow & proper growth is frowned upon - taking other people’s money & trying to grow fast isn’t sadly. I’ve been in that situation w/ a business partner & the moment I realized my partner was trying to push me out I was like f* this & you - I’m out. I have no tolerance for bs & I saw it early enough to check out before having invested more than 2-3k of my own money. Sadly a good bit of my time but I was furious & done w/ it.

Interesting, this might explain something someone started to talk to me about recently & I was just kinda like whatever - he’s not trump nor half as senile or incompetent as what conservatives make him out to be.

Could also just say different - children also have an unlimited tolerance for things that are sweet. Some adults I think never get past it much & have what I call super smellers too. But yea it’s like they can also lack the tastebuds that’d help them appreciate bitter things later in life, like most adults do. Could just be natural that our tastebuds from when were kids change or die off sorta, which allows for the fuller palate.

Tbh though I can’t stand bitter & earwax level IPAs. Just gives me headaches.

Didn’t enjoy mastodon? Maybe it’s all about the instance but there are many & over many interests. Tbh I’ve enjoyed the Fosstodon instance very much & w/ iOS clients like Ice Cubes I don’t feel like I’m missing anything at all.

People complained endlessly about Facebook & privacy & stoking outrage & yet are swarming to threads & act like signing up for Mastodon is climbing Mt Everest.. it’s not & I feel people are acting & being a bit silly.

Also w/ how Google Talk & XMPP went why would anyone think that Threads would be better at implementing ActivityPub? Last thing we need is a commercial entity “committing” to ActivityPub while actively undermining it at the same time.

Haven’t read the article yet, but no it’s not garbage. There’s literally not a single terminal app on linux that remotely comes close to it. ITerm2 is extremely flexible & powerful & well designed. I used to get beachballs w/ it though & I think that went away as I went from using tons of tabs to just 1-4 & tmux for the rest.

Closest I’ve come on linux is xfce4-terminal w/ devilspie2 to fill the gaps.

But let me tell you.. that flat earther did their research!!

Reading up on it I guess the main instances moderation does not live up to their rules & is what the issue is about. Whether they’re really in support of being anti-human rights or just incompetent at moderation I dunno. I hope the latter vs the former, guess we’ll figure it out over time - which communities will be ran well vs the ones that aren’t.

Pretty sure with RDP type apps and lower res you can easily push 2 or 4 screens... but yea probably not at 4k. Sheesh that isn't even necessary for people doing productive work. Except for maybe video editors.

Really should be including Budgie DE imho. It literally blends the best things about any and all DEs as far as I am concerned.

Well I had a similar experience with them jamming bad books on me, but on the whole I would say I was better off with public schooling than the alternatives that would have been available to me without a doubt.

Damn man.. if it weren't for public schools I would seriously be worried about what type of education I'd have gotten at the hands of my own parents or the type of private school they'd have sent me. Public schooling is quite literally one of the only reasons I care about science and take an analytical approach to most everything the way that I do.

The pandemic was the disastrous part and yes measures were taken in response to it that no one liked doing, but how we lay blame on people trying to protect themselves, and their family.. I think is shortsighted. More people died in most countries from it than what they died in the last World War, and maybe 2.

We don't go around constantly blaming the people and decisions that led up to the World Wars, it happened and we accept it and move on from it. Also sending kids into private schools in the US I think is part of the problem - there are many proponents that'd love all public schools to go under and to teach their brand of "science" and "history" to their students while knowing they are not providing an actual education. That is not all private schools, but many do have an agenda and little to no oversight in the US.

Thanks for the mention, I have tried hard to be faithful to mac conventions and to be honest it was both a harder and easier problem to tackle, several months.. maybe a year or more before it got to be really solid but it sorta requires one to think about it in layers so you're not really killing yourself to remap every little thing individually lol.

I think many of you guys are missing the forrest from the trees here. He tanked his Tesla shares to do this deal & to no small part due to Bill Gates. I am sure this express more of his nervousness on just how much more expensive this deal was becoming as it was costing him a lot more than the list price due to him not taking into account how his other investors in his other companies would take the news.

He's a smart idiot to put it kindly and a very lucky one at that despite all of his sincere and actual efforts.

That’s funny lol. As if any person hard up on cash would likely still have any of it. Thing is anyone likely to be thrown out on the streets aren’t sitting around waiting for the last stimulus nickle to run dry or it’s already gone & they're borrowing money already.

You don't upload entire 2-5gb iso or vm images to github or gitlab imo. The sorun.me project itself is in fact hosted on github - not sourceforge. Will admit I had no reason to be on sourceforge at all until I was like "Hey.. I need a place to host these images." and I realized that sourceforge is still a thing and perfect for hosting such large images for free.

Of course I could host it myself - but I guess I should just provide links on my actual sorun.me page.

Recently I needed to reorder my network devices priority & I yarned for macOS over Linux in that moment. I don’t have to Google how to change network priority on a Mac.. it’s literally drag & drop.. vs Linux requiring the CLI.

I base my work on Ubuntu Budgie, but I make efforts to support a few popular others for kinto.sh.

The “security” of wayland is a bit of an illusion imo. I’ve already seen a user pick it apart awhile ago.

Regardless I don’t what they’re trying to do, but they do need to add in a proper method for granting higher privileges to apps to have more access to Wayland in the same way macOS grants access to Remote Desktop apps.

But that’s a true assessment despite all that’s on paper there’s a lot left to chance in actual use. Will the trackpad use Windows Precision or won’t it?

Will the screen be decent or won’t it? Will the battery life suck or won’t it? There’s numerous quality of life question any Windows will have to ask before even getting to the actual specs of CPU, RAM & GPU.

Entire processor classes ignored, gpus, & now all of Intel will lack support. Not the same really. Even vm acceleration sucks for no real reason.

It used to be.. 10.4-10.6 were amazing. No question better than any Linux desktop at the time.

I could bake things in a little bit more but meh, it is scripted and people can easily contribute to it or not. I think I created something every bit as good as macOS more or less, I still need to fix the script to fully setup gesture support though. That is about the only thing lacking from my perspective.
