I think that Mozilla are trying to make addons disappear.... they started with Firefox Mobile, only about 10-15 addons are available now (which is why I use an ancient version of Firefox Mobile).

They are getting a lot of money from Google, so it MIGHT be a request from Google.

Not impossible that your web server was 100% secure, but I doubt it because I think that I have never seen a server that didn't eventually need security patches.

It's rather sad to dismiss Matrix (or even Element) as a whole due to bugs on one specific app on one specific platform.
