Wasn't facebooks pull a result of the huge Cambridge analytica scandal.

The Spanish blackout, singular, last year was a cascading control plane faillure - i.e. independent of resource allocation. Texas failed to prepare for predictable winter storms - i.e. a market failure.
No Spain failed to plan for green energy intermittency which led to cascading failure. They did not have enough base load power. Another country bad at planning is UK: https://watt-logic.com/2026/07/02/neso-cutting-exports-durin...
So we have Germany, UK and Spain managing their grid poorly. All government managed.
A communist planned economy produced the same result as capitalism, and did it faster, from a worse starting point.
Capitalism is not tied to democracy. Read up on market reforms of China before being a smart ass. China has more free market competition domestically than any developed economy, which is why their EVs are so cheap or practically anything they make. The government making high level plans on how their economy gets developed is entirely normal for every major economy and has been done in the US and EU, they just regressed at it while China improved on it. They are the most capitalist society on earth.
You brought up the 08 crash... in defence of free-market capitalism. I can't tear my eyes off this car crash. Please, continue, I need more.
Yeah now check the GDP growth of EU and US after that. We in the EU are going through a managed decline, the US lows are followed by highs and investment booms unlike anything the EU has or will ever see.
They literally built a new hospital in germany without AC. 28C/82F degrees in surgery.
It's not the money. In many places you need to go through permitting to get it and they do not want to give it to you. Often you also need a signed approval from every person in the building.
Supply domestically outstrips demand, so no they can not sell it locally at that price. The US did not spend billions building LNG terminals for nothing.
Yeah sure dogma. Capitalism is evil, yet it lifted more people out of poverty than anything in history.
Of the three economic powers, the one with the most social welfare and least capitalist is the one that never recovered from the 2008 crisis. Funny how that is. Strange when all the welfare gets spent in the economy.
The one with the unproductive capital buying back shares is building GW datacenters. The other with "productive" capital, is encouraging people not to buy ACs because the electric grid cant handle it and using energy is bad for the environment.
Public spending is dead unproductive capital. Giving poor people money just traps them into a cycle of poverty.
Spain also had blackouts.
No they can not sell it with a markup domestically. LNG price is much higher.
The US has incredible gas reserves. Much more that can be exported with ships.
That was my point. We in the EU are destroying ourselves. The US is racing ahead and investing in all kinds of power generation technologies.
This is a defeatist EU attitude that leads to the worse outcomes. Expensive power and a failing economy.
There is money now for a huge investment boom, which is what is happening in the US and China. With EU failing completely.
Social networks didn't really exist before The Facebook
Social networks were all the rage. He executed the best of all and had the right strategy to build the user base.
Diversity over everything. Does not care about anything else. He is not a technocrat, to be a technocrat he would need to have evidence based policy, which he clearly did not. He is a pure, single minded, ideologue. Every event, every opportunity was just a conduit to express his single mindless slogan of diversity being our strength.
He is out because he is an insane ideologue that the vast majority of the country despises.
The grand coalition governments of the EU are not in any way better. They just result in bickering and gridlock because parties that hate each other get stuck in the same room.
This is your pet issue, completely based on the grass looking greener on the other side.
Well that sure as hell does not describe starmer.
Disagree. Every one of the issues you mentioned is a direct result of labour/tory uniparty ideology. Netzero, endless migrants, insane taxation and so on.
A completely pointless exercise for all involved. Rearranging deck chairs of the titanic that is the labour party.
As if simply entering the market is trivial.
Yes all russia's fault. It has nothing to do with european governments and the EU caring more about climate change than the economy. More about third worlders than local population. More about policing racism than violent crime. More about extending the war instead of ending it.
As if the west does not use tariffs and subsidies. China is simply much smarter about it and has much more functional institutions.
I do not like founder controlled publicly traded companies.
These companies outperform the market though.
And then watch your industry collapse due to high energy prices like germany.
You are right I was mistaken. However Germany is still a basket case. If you want to move to a low carbon economy, you can not do it with renewables only and must be able to maintain equal power generation levels. Germany is producing less power than before and thus shooting their economy in the foot. Nuclear is the only practical solution.
The thread is about the world moving off fossil fuels.
Not only that, that nuclear waste is still incredibly energy dense and could be used in the future, if we actually invested more into developing nuclear technologies.
Nuclear waste is a hilariously small amount of mass. It takes decades to build because of permitting and excessive regulations, the current UK plant build being one public insanity after another. Mining uranium is not an issue, it is all over the place and so on.
Every one of your points is a non issue, made into a big deal because of ideology.
If the green movement had any sense they would be promoting nuclear and lobbying to get plants built asap. Instead most of the green movement is against nuclear and only make things worse, i.e. germany now using huge amounts of coal.
Bring your own power means natural gas turbines or diesel generators. Both of which produce incredible noise pollution.
One of the biggest arguments against is the incredible noise pollution. If it uses a natural gas turbine it is like being next to a jet engine.
