A lot of the comments here is why I have been disgusted with the left in the last few years, having always voted D before and, at simultaneously, being disgusted by the trumpanzee right.

The so called "woke" (in case someone whines about me using this term and says the usual "it's not a thing", I'll define it as basically the delusional left, who have become extremists due to wallowing in their own outrage social media info bubble 24/7) are so up their own ass about their supposedly superior moral values that they have come full circle and become void of the most basic morals.

They find all sorts of justifications for violence (even lethal) against anyone they deem "evil" in their own warped, highly subjective opinion. Their opinions can be summarized as "I'm against violence and have very an extremely high moral compass but it's OK to kill this particular civilian because of these really good reasons I'm about to cite". The reasons are often terrible and devoid of being based on verifiable, objective reality but the meme-induced righteousness is 10/10.

There is not a single drop of self-doubt and anyone arguing against them get immediately labeled "evil" as well, regardless of how rational and well explained their opinions are. These people are outraged by the killing of IRGC, Hamas or Hezbollah leaders (some of the most deserving of violence) but justify violence against someone like Sam.

The same people who say that words are violence and that misgendering someone is tantamount to putting their life in danger had no problems celebrating the cowardly assassination of Charlie Kirk.

I can cite many other examples but this comment is getting longer than intended and I've made my point.

I agree with the moderator here. It's become sad how even in a community like this, full of supposedly well-educated, intelligent people nonsense like the above has become the norm.

Lastly, what people like this don't realize is that by behaving this way they're the worst enemies of their own cause. As awful as Trump and his supporters are, my motivation to vote for the party full of progressive wokesters has almost completely dried up. I feel like the D party no longer represents me as a rational person interested in fact-based, civilized discussions and policies that come out of those. The left has become as hateful and hysterical as the right. In many ways, it has even surpassed the right. I'm now stuck in the middle watching both sides becoming more and more extreme in their views and losing all humanity, while at the same time, completely delusionally, believing in their own moral superiority.

Telegram is not a behemoth like Facebook so doesn't have their resources to moderate everything. Even Facebook isn't particularly good at it. They mostly rely on software which often produces false positives.

This arrest is completely preposterous and is just an attempt to get Durov to play ball with France's privacy destroying authorities.

Looks like there's finally a benefit to Android OS being such a clusterfuck with some many versions being currently active on a significant portion of devices. Not updating quickly increases the number of versions floating around.

Lots of good replies but I liked this one the best. 100% right on and what a ton of technically smart people don't understand.

Tons of technically very smart people are a great example of that. Are they technically smart? Yes. Do they overanalyze the shit out of everything and almost always come up with reasons why it won't work? Yup.

Every smartup CEO I've worked with has been delisionally optimistic and very charismatic. Their main skill is to be a true believer (at least externally) and brainwash everyone around them into their vision (investors and current as well as perspective employees).

This is true for a lot of people in tech, in general. Part of it is because tech people are, on average, much smarter and much more curious than an average person. Now, you take a smart, curious person and you make them work at a computer connected to the internet -- the largest knowledge base ever created. That's like hiring an alcoholic to work at a liqueur store and expecting them not to drink during the work day.

You're basically arguing for what totalitarian regimes do when they censor any speech they deem undesirable.

I'm sure you will reply that the type of speech you want to censor is actually bad but who decides that? You?

Freedom of speech without significant negative consequences is one of the main principles of a democratic society. As long as the speech in question is not promoting violence it should be allowed.

The fact that so many liberals now think that it's desirable to have consequences for expressing a wrong opinion is mind boggling and scary. That is a completely illiberal stance. It's also stupid because it somehow misses the point of freedom of speech being a principle. What if these woke people faced significant negative consequences for expressing THEIR opinions?

The guy you're replying to appears to be a perfect example of a woke idiot. The whole idea that Joe Rogan is extremely controversial is incredibly stupid. The guy has an interesting, super popular podcast where he talks to super interesting people in a very chill, entertaining way. How terrible. This idea that you have to ban anyone that ever said anything you disagreed with is extremely illiberal and sounds like something from a totalitarian society.

I had a guy at work once who told me that he was a fan of HBO's Silicone Valley until he heard of that email one of its writers sent. After that he stopped watching the show. I asked him if he does constant research to find out if a person who produces any entertainment he likes said or did something bad in his personal life & then stops watching or listening any of the content they had something to do with. He said yes.

America is really killing itself slowly (if people stop having kids we'll die out eventually but terrible economic consequences will hit much earlier) because of how bad the policies here are. Family values is just something conservatives like to blather about while doing everything to make people not wanna have full fledged families.

Having kids shouldn't be this difficult and it isn't in countries where the government has common sense policies to actually support family values but in US half the country has been brainwashed to think of them as evil socialism.

I know many Europeans with kids and they seem to be much less stressed out than Americans, still have time for hobbies and are genuinely enjoying having kids. It turns out that having kids doesn't have to be completely overwhelming when you have long maternity leave, government providing free day care and great public schools in your area (none of that lottery politically correct idiocy) plus parents who aren't living thousands of miles who prefer spending their retirement playing infinite rounds of golf and going on cruises over being involved grandparents.

The government system and the individualistic, selfish mindset of Americans (both things that we delusionally pride ourselves on) is the cause of many major problems here and many people are still unwilling to even admit them.

I'm intimately familiar with the space, especially when it comes to Silicon Valley startups, and it's no cynicism, but reality that most of them do, in fact, start out looking to be bought. In fact, that's the #1 goal of VCs, angel investors & almost all founders.
