Many years ago I tried to publish a book via a blog and micro posts, basically novel via 200 words a day, 5 days a week.

I couldn't get an audience, so I kind of gave up on it.

Maybe the times are more right for something like that these days.

That said, my novel might not have been that good.

Parents should be able to choose the kind of school their child goes to... Though, this is unfair to kids with bad parents. That said, people who will (knowingly) be bad parents, shouldn't have kids in the first place.

As a child, I had a learning disability, my school's principal told my parents that I'd never do anything with my life. My parents disagree and so did I, they found a private school that specialized in teaching students like me. The school did some intellectual tests to make sure I could learn, and learn I did.

They spent tens of thousands of dollars so that I could be taught, in that environment I excelled.

I don't trust the government to be a good judge of students abilities, because someone like me would be labelled dumb and be left behind forever.

Technically if you were pressing an alternative theory than you would be using 'alternative facts.' Facts are tools or pieces to build something, such as a theory.

We all experience alternative realities and use our 'alternative facts' to justify our beliefs. We all literally do this every single day.

As a libertarian or a marxist one has 'alternative facts' about the nature of humans, society and the environment, from there they build up their world.

I don't like Trump, never have. But the way the media baits his words and expects us to be appalled is absurd and dishonest.

I think you underestimate the ideological and political influences on science.

I get it, fake news is a problem because a new product is coming to solve the 'problem' of fake news.

You are right about the modern life being the problem for most of us.

Not sure you understand determinism.

Both your examples are examples of deterministic responses.

Also, not knowing what the future will bring, doesn't mean that its not determined to a certain way.

I'd say I'm more of a realist, whatever is happening is happening, and whatever the results are going to be are going to be.

Likely some of what is happening is caused by humans and some is outside our control. Likely our actions will make little difference. Realistically the whole world runs on fossil fuels and that is not going to change anytime soon or quickly. Sure they can raise taxes significantly, but that is going to make the food at the grocery store much much more expensive before it makes any serious change on the environment.

You seem to be in denial about how prohibitively difficult it would be to 'fix' this problem.

This isn't a philosophical debate, but consider something like physicalism rather than free will.... No point in getting into a debate about that, but if you believe in science then you kind of have to believe in determinism.

We aren't really special, we ONLY think we are, we are restricted to the same laws as all other animals over all of time. We THINK we are different and ACT differently, but the 'effects' will still come to our 'causes.'

Take a stoic perspective rather than a defeatist one on the deterministic nature of things and it stops being something to get angry about.

As you said, the earth will be fine.

Haven't we been trying to improve our lives and the lives of our children for 30,000 odd years... Take a look at the situation we created, this world is the direct result of our desire to make things better... We've literally destroyed the earth.

Yeah, sort of, like we can try to escape earth, or build something underground, or whatever sci-fi fantasy you like.

But if its our species time to go, than that is what will be.

I'd assume from that data, that its going to happen regardless of what we do.

This is what we are doing.

In Canada every family gets 52 weeks of 55% pay.

This 'progress' is behind the rest of the world, sure its a good innovation or whatever, but why is the USA miles behind the rest of the world in this regard?

Parents being around for their kids is important.

If you look at the graphs that have greater time lines than 100k years, you will see this is a pattern.

No doubt we as humans are speeding up the process and making it worse, but it seems likely that its going to happen regardless of what we do.

For this reason, I'd suggest we are 'gonna change' when the time comes.

I sort of see all this as a natural progression, maybe our purpose at this point is to eliminate ourselves, the earth will be just fine without us.

Realistically, the CBC's left leaning is a balance to all the conservative leaning of the other broadcasters.

There is value in providing content that isn't 100% profit incentivized, especially as a predominately left leaning country (relative to the USA).

Personally, I find CBC the only news that is palatable. They do have a left slant, but that seem consistent with the average citizens position when compared to the USA and the news/media we get from them.

The stories are different too, which might come from an incentive to provide a public service rather than a sensationalization of what is happen as a profit motive.

There are 10x as many people in the USA as in Canada.
