Yet I bake my own bread because the "bread" you can buy isn't bread.

Its not a smart calculation to poison yourself and live shorter just because it is convenient and less work in the short term.

If anything the bread paradox should describe that it is very easy to fool 90% of the population. Eat shit and then inject ozempic. Double win... for the industry

Novel unified architecture: No multimodal encoders. The vision and audio inputs flow directly into the LLM backbone.

I would be interested in how this actually works. I couldn't find a description of the model architecture (and I did check the links in the Google blog)

Since Codd's paper showed that the relational model dominates other approaches (for data storage) I would expect a paper that shows categorical database are not affected by this and what benefit they have.

Tell me you never had a crazy thought and you are either a lier or a psychopath.

"Know your place" is what came to my mind when I looked at this.

I get that they think about going away from the combustion engine, but as a manufacturer of insanely expensive, loud and overpowerd sports car this doesn't make sense.

It's like if I as a software dev would be worried about the future market and suddenly advertise myself as a psychologist in search for clients.

It was always only a suggestion to the compiler, to hold this variable in a register.

Compilers got so good at optimization that there is little point using it.

If a variable is held in a register you can't access it with a pointer. So if your intention is it should be in a register you can't take the address.

Definitely the fish stinks from the head.

I'm also a bit confused about how the people on the top think this will play out.

A long time ago there was a french saying "noblesse oblige", or the german pendant "Wohlstand verpflichtet".

I still enjoy the things that are not overtaken by big tech (although it isn't much). Anna's archive and streaming niche movies.

I miss the old forums the most. The group mind on Reddit is just regression to the mean.

The rest I tried to cut back as much as possible for my own mental health.

I can't get of YouTube completly even though most of the time I hate myself after doom scrolling. Sometimes I still find genuinely interesting stuff there.

This is something I want to try. Does the time where the mind stays in the present before it strays away increase when you practice this?

Both can be totalitarian. Both are shit imho. I just don't buy the argument that China is worse because of it.

But if we start nitpicking the US also executes people all over the world without trial and has secret prisons worldwide where they put people (guess what) without trial.

The USA has one of the highest percentages of their population in prison.

Even for minor stuff like beeing addicted to drugs.

Looks pretty totalitarian to me.

I remember New Year's Eve in 2000. It felt like people really believed in a better future and they looked forward to experience the new millenium.

In retrospective this looks like a depressing joke to me.

Children spend an insane amount of time in school yet it has little results.

One overlooked problem is imo that you can't just waste their time with nonsense and get good results.

A lot of people in the education system are so full of shit that they believe it's good for children to sit there the whole day.

Improving exercises and lectures should be a priority.
