Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art.... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things which give value to survival.

If an individual site took on the infra challenges themselves, would they achieve better? I don’t think so.

I’m tired of this sentiment. Imagine if people said, why develop your own cloud offering? Can you really do better than VMWare..?

Innovation in technology has only happened because people dared to do better, rather than giving up before they started…

Mac hardware, on the other hand, has never been better than it is right now!

I thought the same until trying a framework laptop with Ubuntu. Mac is the “IBM” choice, no one gets fired for choosing it, but quite frankly there’s better options these days.

What's Tesla's forward PE? Close to 200?

Nope, close to 300 actually…

No idea. But curious- why would something that was published a decad or longer ago not be of interest today?

Because if it isn’t in the “hype” it’s worthless, obsolete, trash…

Welcome to the new world of tech, that warms its hands by burning the old world.

The public is not conscious of how big of a deal the war in Ukraine is.

My sincerest desire is that there’s a peaceful resolution to this conflict before they’re forced to realize it.

That’s because LLMs are just snake oil… Look at what a flop ChatGPT 5 was. If someone manages to actually make something useful, Amazon has a stake in Anthropic. Otherwise why should they waste their money while competitors bankrupt themselves at scale over a hype cycle.

The rebuild will likely end up easier, IMO, because the screens and the logic is all done. Most of it just has to be moved to strict backend and then have the APIs secured correctly.

People really want to bring down the growth of the USA's software industry to EU level.

The EU is the only place hiring software engineers right now. Everyone in the U.S. just keeps laying them off.

Hell, I'd love to learn more about the hardware hacking the OP is talking about. Love to learn about those GPU hardware modifications people do. I know it's hacker news, but I'd actually love to learn about that hacker stuff.

This, I feel like ever since the fall of Twitter, a true hackerspace has been missing for awhile.

It can help us, just like a calculator can help us solve an equation.

A calculator is consistent and doesn’t “hallucinate” answers to equations. An LLM puts an untrustworthy filter between the truth and the person. Google was revolutionary because it increased access to information. LLMs only obscure that access, while pretending to be something more.

I don’t understand why people want to so aggressively distance themselves from the source of truth. I’m not sure folks appreciate what they’re giving up, when they’re willingly summarizing and wholeheartedly consuming content that may or may not be entirely fabricated…
