Irish and English are both official languages in the Republic of Ireland. Irish is the first official language and English being the second.

One thing to consider do you speak any of these languages (i.e. French, Italian or Spanish) or at least willing to learn?
Just an opinion and my experience of course but I think learning the language greatly helps from meeting new people and to integrating into that country. Of course you could live in a tourist town which have a lot of English speaking inhabitants but then house prices are probably going to be higher and you're probably not getting as an authentic experience

I actually did a semester on introductory chemistry but was completely over my head and kind of scraped by and forgot most of it, didn't help that I hadn't done secondary/high school chemistry. I guess what has really sparked my interest is that I've gotten into brewing beer and the chemistry/biology side of things has made me interested again. The impact of different minerals present in the water to the biochemistry side of brewing so would just like to understand better the chemistry behind it. pH plays an important role in beer making so was already planning to get a pH meter anyway but could use it for other experiments as you've mentioned

Well with regards to speaking slow I guess that is to suit non-native speakers, however there is always the playback speed button which can be increased to a speed that suits
