Yes, I think you are right. There are a lot of desktops apps. But even if they were not, right now, the PaaS options like AppEngine or the new AWS Elastic Beanstalk are too restrictive and not mature enough to become a serious alternative for enterprise apps.
But who knows what will happen in the future...
Groupon is going to face a lot of competition these next months. Now Yelp is offering some similar deals related with food....
I agree with fleitz. The users do not care about standards and the developers should focus on the users and consequently just make it work in all browsers without caring about the theoretical specification.
I just hope IE9 is released soon and finally implements round border...
