To everyone angry at Adria for not "just asking them to stop": I am a female developer that attends 4-5 conferences per year. I have had experiences similar to that of Adria's, and I pretend I can ignore them. Why? Because confronting a guy (or guys) I don't know, in a room where my gender is clearly in minority, and explaining why I found something offensive is not an action I have been brave enough to take.

I applaud Adria for being braver than I could ever be. I am responsible for my actions (or lack of action), and you are responsible for yours. Hopefully, together we can keep our conferences and communities accepting and fun.

I would he interested in seeing the user feedback on this question.

I have always believed the answer to be 'No' but I am not the target market.

I am a developer that believes the entire point of a CMS is to provide a backend to add/update/edit content - not make design or layout decisions. Never give users a rope, they will hang themselves.

If you have a backup of the site - you can install a caching plugin. That will help with the load until you can move to Cloudflare or move the hosting to WPEngine.

Only in Basecamp, where I wish I could use Markdown.

Amazon is far from perfect, but they are the Walmart of the web. Small players need to be better, and hopefully know that Amazon.com is not the standard for which they should aim.

Very nice. I really appreciate the dropdown formatting selector box. I use Textile in Basecamp and find myself intermixing/confusing it's formatting with Markdown because the two are CLOSE but not exact.

Agreed, it took me a few page scans to realize that the "drop zone" is at the top of the webpage itself.

Groupon is guaranteed marketing in the sense that people will purchase the Groupon offer. Is Groupon the best and most effective marketing tool...that will reach your target audience? No.

They may be the biggest PC maker, but I would not say that is because they make great PCs-they just make A LOT of them. HP used to make great printers and servers. I hope they can get back to a place where they do SOMETHING well.

Forget lowering prices, if you cannot get customers into your business than you really need to take a step back and review your current marketing efforts.

What can be done to get more of your target customers in the door - and to keep that up on an ongoing basis?

I would never work for Groupon or anyone else - so I would make a very bad puppet. ;) I didn't even mean to sound like I was endorsing Groupon. Groupon = marketing laziness (IMHO)

Not a Groupon sockpuppet at all. I just didn't have a blogger account tied to my Google Apps account. I am not a frequent Blogger commenter.

Testing and finding the right methods for your individual audience is the best thing you can do.

I personally was/am having a hard time with items being in two places. The quick entry feature of Omnifocus made that the dumping ground for tasks, that then I would go into Basecamp to breakdown, explain, and assign.

I have used spootnik as well, and now I am testing getflow.com for not only myself but for the team in replacement of Basecamp. I like the quick entry feature and the delegation....interested in seeing how it compares as a project management tool to Basecamp.

I have been waiting for something like this! I belong to so many different Basecamp accounts, I was losing track.

Agreed. It was the status updates (and pictures to a lesser degree) that made Facebook interactive.

I am sorry the site was down. I agree, soon being on Facebook will be equal to still being on Friendster

I am aware of the Top News vs. Most Recent - and I still see a general interaction decline. The number of brands friends are liking has gone up, but their actual person to person interactions have gone down.
