I've been listening to the audiobook and have enjoyed it a great deal thus far (about 1/4 in). Helped me think about work in a new / fun way that has helped me start of the year right.

Strongly agree. Picked up a consistent walking habit amidst the pandemic while also undergoing a divorce. Been hitting 10k+ steps per day for a couple years now and have been amazed at all the positive second order effects - time to think and reflect, calmer, better digestion, more endurance, lower bodyweight.

Not to mention just the pure joy of being out in nature in all sorts of conditions - rain or shine. Walking is what humans are meant to do (as far as I'm concerned).

How did learning lisp help you understand the power of Emacs? Just starting down the Spacemacs road myself (from Sublime Text), and curious to hear more about your experience!

Doesn't sound crazy at all to me! I do this all the time using multiline editing in Sublime Text. It's the one part of a more modern IDE I have a hard time giving up (transitioning to Spacemacs currently). Will have to try out this script and see if it helps bridge the gap!

Beautifully put, thanks for taking the time to write it.

It's also a perfect summary of why I'm struggling mightily with working a predictable job (that anyone should love) vs working on my next business or other volatile pursuit.

I need to get Go All The Way tattooed on my forehead. I hope it's a mindset I have the courage to maintain for the rest of my life.

In what ways did reading Difficult Conversations make your life easier? Very curious to learn more (it's been on my list for a while, but need to motivate myself to get around to it)!

On that note, have you ever read Non-violent Communication? Seems like another book in the same vein.

What will you do when your 2015 MBP gets too old? Are you hopeful that they'll get back to a more developer friendly laptop with functioning keyboard, etc?

I ask because I'm encountering the same conundrum and wondering if I should just force myself to make the switch to a different OS and way of working now.

I use vimium on Chrome. Love it - can barely use a browser without it these days. It's worth using alone just for the ability to easily click links without ever touching the mouse.

Reminds me a lot of the book Never Split the Difference. If you enjoyed this post, I highly recommend that book. It's fantastic and really opened my eyes to all the areas I could improve my ability to relate to other people and negotiate more effectively.

What has become exceedingly scarce (and therefore, valuable) is the physical, emotional, attentional, and mental capability to sit quietly and direct focused attention for sustained periods of time.

Reminds me a lot of the book Deep Focus by Cal Newport which covers this topic in depth. Great book that forced me to take another look at many bad habits and renewed my sense of focus.
