Arq sounds almost ideal, except its still intended more for "backup" than "storage". Its more like an Apple Time Machine.

From what I read, you can still offload data from your local machine by choosing to "archive" a directory.

But thats an extra step and I haven't read how it handles conflicting directory that are created in the future after archiving the original.

Google is making their cloud offering very attractive compared to AWS.

The issue with Glacier is the convoluted retrieval pricing. I understand they want to dissuade people from using it as a primary storage, but the potential for a surprise bill is hard to swallow.

Interesting how they still offer unlimited storage through their consumer Amazon Drive service.

I often here comments about finishing a mathematical/technical book over the course of a "few" weekends.

But I don't see how thats possible if it includes completing all (or even most of) the given exercises. Especially when you have a full-time job.

didn't do the math, but sounds plausible though I know barely anything of quantum mechanics.

just to confirm my interpretation, its saying that:

- fundamentally the universe is governed by quantum mechanics

- classical physics doesn't truly exist

- the classical physics we see and intuit can be explained by entropy (information theory) of the quantum state

- measurement and entanglement are the same in the sense that both imparts "information" into the system. this in effect acts as a "filter", an example of which is the double-slit experiment where the waves are "filtered" to particles when being measured

- our conscious mind is a classical construct so its naturally difficult to intuit quantum laws

is that mostly correct? also, how popular is this theory in the physics community?

Thanks for the comparison chart! I know not all VPN services respect a subscribers privacy but its better than risking fraudulent activity.

I understand that any sufficiently well resourced company can provide you with VPN access to their own private network for business activity.

But I'm interested more in the things an individual can or should do on our own without the backing of a corporation.

Steps I've taken are:

* Ensure two-factor authentication (2FA) is enabled

* Setup a separate email that I forward my personal mail to, and only log into that while I'm away

* Only access the Internet through a prepaid Cellular Data Plan or at an Apple Store Wifi

* Avoid any bank transactions during the holiday period

If any of those are not satisfied, I don't go online and just take a break from the Internet for awhile
