Definitely have found myself in a similar situation in fact most of the times option 2 happens. I too have caught myself just thinking rather than building and glad I am not the only one who repeatedly tells himself I should just build it rather than enter the rabbit hole of what is out there.

I didn't at first and let's be honest most of our workflow is within what you described, however in the era of AI assisted coding I found JJ more pragmatic. I can easily abandon or create new work without having to stash or commit etc. Another thing I really like about JJ it's undo, did I commit something and realised I forgot to add something? jj undo and undos the last operation. Not only my workflow is ergonomically more flexible because of JJ but also less forgiving without having to memorise a lot of git commands. And integrates with already git repos for smooth transition!

Indeed, most of us are probably limited with what our companies let us use and also not to mention not everyone can afford to use AI tooling in their own time without thinking about the cost assuming you want to build something your company doesn't claim as their own IP.

I have started Kitchen Confidentials by Anthony Bourdain and almost finished it! I am hoping to start reading more next year as I have struggled finishing books most of the time.
