Evernote. Free and accessible across many devices. For me it has been best of the worst. It has been my one place to store all information. Evernote serves well as a general knowledge base, but fails for storing programming snippets and ideas.

a) think about changing your job or even career. b) If you dont think the fatigue is work related, you need to find a hobby and or a relationships that help you feel energized. c)For many people work is not calling , but a means to a good life, and that is OK. d)And regardless of what fatigues you ,take frequent breaks. Make it a point to go on vacations. Sometimes, being away from things helps to see them clearer.

A good definition that has helped me distinguish between these two terms is that, "Leaders change the status quo. managers do not." there will be overlapping tasks and skills for these roles, but one definitely is not the other.

As everyone said, keep a paper trail and update your resume. It would be even better if you are left out of the finger pointing-' blame circle' on D-day.

The project might be doomed to fail but there will be individual tasks that can be completed successfully. Complete these tasks (and your tasks) and present them as your contributions to the win/progress column. If you are one of the few engineers who is getting stuff done, you will be noticed in positive light and it will be harder to throw you under the bus.

you cannot stop the inevitable failure of a project, but no where does it say you have to walk towards it. Complete your tasks and just a little more. publicize your minor achievements, and stay out of the politics. this way you can do what is right and remain unscathed when all falls down. Good luck.

this was precisely the comment i was going to post and you beat me to it :) you run the very real risk of having a bunch of comments that mutually agree to the same point being up voted, while the contrarian post or a different opinion is 'shouted down'. Taking the time to distinguish a comment that you disagree with (may be even dislike ) and a comment you think is unproductive to the discussion is our responsibility. I wish we did a better job at it.

I am part of the discussion , the same way you are. and to take a step back and think why things are the way they are, IMO is very good thing. billions of app downloads happen for a reason. I was not justifying the the practice. in fact i did say "I personally think, having a small, disappearing toolbar to remind the user an app is available is the best way to go"

there are enough apps to draw an example for every case discussed (good mobile app, bad thick client vice versa..)

I agreed with the poster too. I had trouble with his tone like many others. with app downloads not slowing down, it is important to understand why things are the way they are. this might also help to predict the winning strategy.

and it is not just big firms that prefer an app over a website. piggy backing on my previous example, a search for stocks brings up an entirely different list of services in the apple App Store than google. the mechanisms in play are different when it comes to mobile apps. As a coder, i prefer rich mobile websites to app's whenever possible. But, I am unsure about the trend ( as it seems many business are..) and that is a discussion I look forward to have.

Reading through the comments I am glad I am not the only one who finds over the top profanity upsetting. Yes , the author is free to make his/her point any way they want to. and No, not everyone who thinks that this profanity is undue is a prude. and I dont think it is fair to make a culture or age characterization based on a user's response. Extreme or sometimes, any profanity changes the tone of the article. that alone is a good reason to avoid over the top proclamations. IMO the author comes across as loud and noisy , and not strong and forceful. Just like a stand up comedian, who says 'fuck' for every joke.

As to the point in discussion: yes, it can be extremely annoying at times when companies prompt you to download their app. they have good reasons to do it too.

a) you spend good money to build an app, you want to drive users to the app instead of the site

b) many times , the app can be more functional than the site

c) one of the harder things for companies to do , is to retain user engagement. ex, if you have a firm that delivers stock quotes for users, you want to modify the users behavior to use your firm instead of a yahoo finance, or google. by making the user commit to download your app , in a way you get the users commitment to use your service.

d) you get a piece of users mental space , when you get their phone's screen space.

I personally think, having a small, disappearing toolbar to remind the user an app is available is the best way to go. Since every business with a website, also trying to get a mobile presence, a dual strategy of mobile web and app, seems to be the norm.

The goal was not to tank apple, but to improve the working conditions at the factory floor and transparency on apple's part. Apple' supply chain is much more transparent after the noise. On another note, our outrage/disagreement cannot be outcome based. We hope the bad publicity will change things. many times it does not.

I was thinking the same thing. Path's UI design is notable and i wanted to keep tabs on it , as an engineer. Looks like the curiosity is not worth it.

With google forking webkit, it will be good to have safari back on windows. I could not understand their decision to quit safari development on windows. Integrate and share data between a good safari desktop browser on windows and an iDevice would be nice.

your argument hardly talks to the bias laid out in this article. The problem is not that a white student with perfect SAT's will gain an admission, but that the same student with a lower score can gain admission while an asian with perfect scores cannot. Essays are important , but they are a tool to hide behind. if the existing tests are not good markers of excellence, why dont harvard and stanford have their own entrance examinations? it is a common practice in universities around the world.

I wondered that is what google would want, but I dont see how they can make G+ mandatory for their search customers. This would mean you would have to be signed into to google to search. And it is just not that G+ is not actively used , Facebook has been adding real users and is growing. Forget the fact I won't move to G+ until 50 of my 150 friends move to g+( which is a very low # among my friends, most of them have atleast few hundered ). you will have to export your pictures and some other personalized content to another site. IMO, the best time for a new social venture to gain traction is when it is new on the block. and google has failed. honcho's at google will admit the failure and move on from the social networking space, if their compensations are not tied to g+.

Just a thought..Would separate lanes with different speed limits avoid some of these accidents? It will also be easier to monitor the unskilled drivers, without taking away a an important privilege. 15000 USD/pt/yr seems to be a cost of phase 3 drug trial in a wealthy (western) nation. there has been a boom in conducting human trials across developing nations , through private contractors. A search for 'drug trials in developing nations' returns millions of links , including reputable sources like bbc and pbs. I will let you pick the best ones :) per capita income in india is 12000 usd/yr. there is no way, a drug firm will spend 15k usd in a place like that to perform human trials.Do remember that 12000 usd is the average income. the rural poor are some of the poorest in that world. you can safely assume that the cost of a drug trial in countries like india is much much lower. Drug companies use poor as guinea pigs , marking up the price for wealthy nations and worst of all , prevent life saving care for billions of people. some on whom the drugs were tested on. So, there is more than one reason this victory is sweet for the developing nations.

I think at some level, you need to believe not all doctors wear white coats. modern medicine is a few hundered years old , but people have been getting sick and have been treated since the dawn of time. Having known people who benefitted from ayurvedic treatment, I tell you that the regimen (medication and food restrictions- you are not assigned one without the other) is one of the toughest I have seen. the people who successfully get through it, swear by ayurvedic medicine. I have been to some of the facilities and met the doctors and they are above average ( by Indian standards). This is why, this mode of treatment in still popular among many in india. needless to say many treatment centers are based in cities and visited by what you might call a more educated and worldly crowd (I mean no offense here, but could not find a better way to say it :) I am willing to forgo my personal observation as an one off, but please qualify your comment.

Your analogy makes all other employees look like mind less cogs,who can have no idea's of their own.No CEO can succeed without a good team. Which begs the question , if yahoo makes 150M more, does she deserve 2/3rd's of that new money? Is Marissa the only person who has a winning perspective or a sense of direction in a firm of more than 10000 people? What we see here is the trickle down effect and people closer to the money paying themselves first.
