Can one fit this study list in a life time? Seriously, this has been a problem for me for a long time. Any one of the mentioned books would take me months to study. It'd take me a month to just read a textbook, without any toil. Am I too slow, or are there some study/reading techniques that I'm not aware of?
I second that. I also think that a person who quitted using email in 1990 for not loosing time for his studies, wouldn't have unlimited time for writing Tex.
The discussion about flaxseed oil holds for walnuts, too. The type of omega-3 in walnuts is called alpha-linolenic acid, or ALA which is widely believed to be not as beneficial as EPA and DHA for the human body.
In my experience, it's not only for the times you look to the side of the screen. Working in a dark environment with a relatively bright monitor is very harsh on the eyes, even you stare at the monitor all the time.
So reducing the contrast between the ambient and the monitor is key to reducing eye strain, at least for my eyes. You can even improve this, by choosing a dark green or blue background, and some beige like pale color for foreground in you IDE or text editor.
I've had scrolling problems with my two Apple Mighty Mice, too. The second was just bought for this reason. Then I saw someone explaining how to fix this. And it definitely works. Place a sheet of paper on your desk, and rub the poor mouse's scroll ball rigorously on the paper in all directions. After that you'll get the feeling of a brand new one.
Your metaphor really tells it all...
