At least, valuation-wise, I agree. We've been on a ridiculous, risk-on market rally for a decade and a half, fuelled by incredibly cheap money and plenty of discretionary excess, and tech stocks have been the vehicle for speculative trading. My money is on energy and associated mining sectors outperforming in the next market cycle. I think we're about to see the return of Peter Lynch style investing after the washout of excess from tech.

I used to work in eeg and eye tracking software (for neuro-motor rehabilitation and control of robotic arms). Using gaze for fine control is very difficult and terribly unnatural due to saccades and general scene scanning. One easy way to demonstrate how difficult it is is to have a cursor appear at the point of gaze. You're vision "chases" the cursor away from your target like it does a floater. Controlling anything directly with gaze is very very hard.

I too have left professional software. Still code to do my own data analysis and stuff, but I feel the same as you. New challenges, more time for the kids and hobbies and less stress.

Specifically, FF ability to use hardware graphics Accel. Like I said, chromium is fine but the trade-off is unacceptable.

I avoid tech that I don't need. Internet phone, home automation, smart *, iPads (are they even a thing anymore?), Subscription services, games, digital entertainment, etc. For me, a number of reasons. Mostly, I just don't need any of that stuff. I want to be present in the world rather than be at the mercy of constant dopamine hit, shiny, need to be constantly using tech, whatever. Financially, I can't justify the ROI. Morally, ethically, socially and psychologically, I've"seen behind the curtain" of tech and thoroughly reject it. Perhaps my decades in software have just made me bitter and tired.

Sadly, even this is getting harder. I'm running voidlinux on an old 32bit eeepc with 8gb of ram. Mostly, everything is ok for a kids computer except for web browsing. FF simply can't render anything video wise (YouTube, etc), and whilst chromium _can_ I'm unable to get any extensions to successfully block ads. I'm not prepared to let my kids see ads.

Not just cameras. They're just one small part in the overall degradation of privacy. Constant surveillance _is_, unfortunately a reality. Dystopia right before our very eyes.

A good yt channel to get some insight into systematic trading is "better systems trader". Also, look back through the archives of "chat with traders" yt channel. More experience on those two channels than you can absorb.

Been using Kodi (XBMC) for nearly 20 years. The piracy FUD surrounding XBMC a few years ago really disappointed me.

We use Kodi for streaming tv (Australia) and internet radio and it is perfect for this.
