There's a YouTube channel[1] explaining the difference between North American cities and European ones. As a resident of Amsterdam he covers this city a lot.

I'm from Zurich, Switzerland. I don't own a car because everything I need is either in walking/cycling distance or reachable by public transport. While I've been well aware of the car dependency situation in North America, watching a few episodes from the mentioned YouTube channel, made me realize that this is a self-inflicted problem because of car centric zoning and development rules. The often cited "greater distances" are in fact the result of these, not the cause.

Whenever I‘m trying a different font, it doesn’t last for long. Not only does Iosevka support all kind of variations (as in: there’s a style for everyone), it‘s also very narrow. I always find it odd when looking at different fonts taking up 1.5 times the horizontal space, especially in terminals.

I‘m using a mixture of SS10 and SS05.

This is not only a bold claim, but utterly wrong. Every single datetime you’re storing should absolutely contain a timezone, preferably UTC.

I‘ve been bitten by dates lacking timezones in various situations during my career and it has always been a pain in the ass to debug and resolve all those random problems they‘re causing.

While a WiFi enabled Pico is incredible, I don't understand why they're still using Micro USB over USB-C in 2022. Is there any good reason for choosing one over the other?

My devices in my home network (2 adults, 1 small kid) did around 1M queries in the past 30 days. Close to 70k were blocked. Using this service has a huge positive impact, but can be a bit on the aggressive side depending on your settings. I‘ve added a dozen of domains to the allowlist during the past two years. Happily paying for it.

Used an MBA M1 for a year before switching to a MBP 14" M1 Pro. The MBA is the best laptop I‘ve ever had. Fanless, light, insane battery life, always cool and blazingly fast. No noticeable difference between the M1 (8/7 16GB) vs. M1 Pro (10/14 32GB) in daily use, although I don’t usually depend on long running processes going full throttle.

I believe the entry-level MBA is the best laptop you can buy when it comes to price-performance ratio.

Even though this post may seem funny to some, I can underline what OP wrote. I used to drink a lot. Usually went out for drinks 3-5 evenings a week. Always social drinking and never missed a day at work, but it was certainly too much. The birth of my son changed everything. Not only have I been barely drinking for the past two+ years, but drinking is making me quite hanxious the day after and I‘m suffering a lot more than I ever used to in the past.

I don’t miss alcohol, but I do miss the social part. Having kids is taxing, but also incredibly rewarding.

Cookie consent banners are the worst. I could swear that every single one I‘ve ever encountered has „Accept all“ as primary call to action. On top of that some employ opt-out forms made in hell, where one has to manually click through half a dozen of checkboxes while „Accept all“ is still the primary action at the bottom of said form. I‘m not only incredibly annoyed by constantly being greeted with obtrusive overlays and huge banners, I‘ve also given up on opting out a long time ago[1]. Arguably this part of GDPR failed miserably.
