except for the last item, you pretty much described amazon.

mame as javascript only worked because distribution of mame is garbage.
go ahead. dont belive me? go on and try to install it now. you will waste days just trying to figure out where you can find some version and then how to hook up that nice frontend you saw on some video demo of a rare mame setup mame.
what they did was excellent. because the alternative was messy.
vlc is already available in a very nice package everywhere. Insead of that futile effort, just convince everyone to just publish the media file and maybe subtitles, in a stardard way, instead of in a proprietary flash-player replacement or proprietary stream app. Your browser will already send it to vlc just fine.
Sounds exactly like my unlimited data plan with AT&T.
think a little harder.
If you actually happen to NEED unlimited data, and someone offers you unlimited data at some speed, and when you go to use it it is not that speed. And now your system does not work as designed.
Are you a happy consumer then? and since everyone get fooled by the false marketing, the actual providers of unlimited data at a certain speed is now out of business, because they had to charge for the real deal.
This is not about having sane limits. It's about false advertising with the only goal of killing competition and stealing business.
And btw, all carriers do that. It's a shame FCC is a tool for AT&T and Verizon nowadays on their plan to split the country into two monopolies. I will bet you money that they will never get a fine like that. ever.
i've had phone (3g unlimited[0]); business DSL (connected 0.4miles from the trunk!); and Cable service from AT&T.
I can say with 100% of confidence, they oversell like crazy and are limited on both wireless spectrum as their pipes capabilities.
Even if they have much better coverage than Tmobile where i live and work, i will still endure it and not give them my service anymore.
[0] remember they charged extra if you had an iphone? ha! always used android and nokia. Also of note, they managed to overcharge my all-unlimited account for $800 above the contract for two consecutive months.
it is a scam not associated with yahoo in any way, i heard.
the credit card scammers just use the fact that almost everyone in the US has a yahoo email.
you probably defended Bell's monopoly in the past? If not, you are being very inconsistent now.
how can you loathe C++ without caming to loathe it? i mean, everyone is bound to hate it, but you have to try it first to be sure...
the smoking gun graph[0] is missing how much of MX al is sold to the US.
[0] well, they split them into several images http://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/BN-PS529_201609_G_... http://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/BN-PS530_201609_G_... http://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/BN-PS533_201609_G_... http://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/BN-PT063_201609_G_...
well, at that time we had standards...
and on the few places we still have, this is what google is doing with chrome on the w3c.
anyone understand what exactly is the system broadcasting to the new DHCP server? I can't imagine any system is so bad to the point of sending anything more sensitive than a user name
because i may also come to the point where i am a direct competitor to google, but i will never get there because i can't scrap any site like they can.
your next argument may very well be a very racist one with the very same excuse you used above.
why the heck even use openCL?!
leave a openCL layer there for the unwashed masses, but provide a decent API for anyone wanting exactly what the product is.
Summary: google is still google. It still have tons of heads and all the profit remained there (android, youtube, etc). Alphabet is just a place for the litigation-prone products, such as Nest and self driving cars.
the priv keyboard is nice, if you have the blackberry keyboard selected.
But as soon as you close the physical keyboard, and get the blackberry soft keyboard, it is pure garbage! years behind the most basic free keyboard. The top 3 softkeyboards for me (swype, google, hacker) have zero support for anything on the hardware keyboard. I can't navigate the cursor, i can't double click alt, i can't swype up, heck i can't even get a word prediction/correction band to show up!
So it is a futile fight with which keyboard you have selected. Then add two languages and now every time you want to switch the language, you also risk switching the keyboard you have selected. It is brain damaging to try to use it.
now, if i have root and can hook up to keyboard open activities on all keyboards (or if blackberry released the source to their keyboard i wouldn't need to do that) i can check if the physical keyboard is open and change it or something.
main product appeal: choose what to watch.
free, ad-supported version: you can't choose what to watch.
I may be wrong here, but why even call them by the same name?
BlackBerry Priv
YES!
i bought this phone only to "vote with my wallet" that more companies should make android phones with keyboards. It is pure garbage in any other aspect. It is the lame phablet size. The keyboard doesn't even have a DOT or COMMA key, let alone numbers, tab, etc.
The only redeeming features is the OLED screen and keyboard. But then they made the software for the keyboard pure garbage, and filled the OS with bloatware.
I've been waiting for root on this phone so i can start to hack away for months. But blackberry with its cave man corporate mentality, thinks that giving out root will scare the 5 old men still buying their products. I can't even buy a developer version like motorola (which have the same mentality) allowed before.
So, thank you for the sloppy coding, Qualcomm! Thank you for not doing your homework, Blackberry! and thank you AT&T for holding OS updates until you can bother to patch your bloatware!
(paid) article just sugar coat the fact that those companies have devices that phone home for every user interaction.
I will just leave this here http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/
i put this hosts file on every device/router that i touch.
It works fully local. So infinitely (and this is not even a hyperbole) faster and you won't have to exchange one privacy hole for another on the "cloud".
why do people keep bringing up the alibaba and other assets when discussing the market cap?
this is like buying someone body shop, looking at the body shop revenue, and then subtracting the price of the current owner paid-for porsche.
Ads.
Video ads are 99% flash still. even if your platform is html5, nobody will pay if you can't show their flash crap.
"template literals" nowadays.
Still no support on IE (desktop|mobile), Android, ios<9
jokes on you for not using noscript and whitelisting domains as you need them.
it is self serving on both ways.
There's tons of ways they can make windows 7 continue to be safe. But pushing out w10 is easier/cheaper/more profitable for them.
can't agree more.
Feature with hundreds of requests gets shunned away. And things that people heavily opposes gets in just to be like chrome.
All the last features on firefox were corporate driven. Bookmark system by pocket. Video chat by Telefonica. Sync goals was probably to make their ad share revenue grow as now you are a logged in user. etc etc etc
Their most well paid dev is a javascript advocate!
Chrome gives you much less control of the web, but everyone uses not because it is fast, but because firefox is getting behind on everything. While the owners arguee about UI changes instead of doing what was successful in the past: put the patch someone already provided as an option and release!
the only interesting thing coming out mozilla nowadays that can change the world is fennec. the mobile version. But last builds on android cannot be completed without google proprietary apis anymore. and usability is crap now that they are trying to "fix" image viewing, which mind you, wasn't broken, it was just different than chrome.
history will look back on this iphone era we are living as the second dark age.
i know i am bugging my CTO staff to change to gitlab or pretty much anything else that is not github enterprise just because for me, github is a diff viewer, absolutely nothing else (specially here since i can't use the issues or wiki pages)
i stand corrected, and schooled!
i never had to deal with that, so i assumed it was as nice as the rest of the debian stuff i had to deal in the past. Glad you're on to it! :D
i know. i know. just mocking the consensus here, that startups raison d'etre is that they can move much faster than big corps.
It often hides syntax highlight if it times out on their servers, which is almost always. It will outright hide the file if over 500lines or so, which i have a lot when changing config files prefixes. They will show no syntax on 99% of the cases, etc.
