It's already our second version, so we do have a userbase already. Also, we don't only take your current location into consideration, but also your past location(s). Like that, you're able to engage with people who are and also have been at places. Which makes the empty room problem less bad.

Thanks! Oh, right. That's our old blurp. Totally forgot about it. Will change it. Thanks a lot for checking us out
It's scary how similar your story is to mine. I'm a Mechanical Engineer too (Master's), but am now the co-founder of a local-search iPhone app... I come originally from Mexico and wonder sometimes if I shouldn't be in Mexico, solving "real" problems...
He just inspired me to write this blogpost about our startup and Space.

I really wish sometimes, I would've tried to become an Astronaut. I do have a Master's in Mech. Engineering...
Great app!
Thanks!!!
true!
Yup. - We give you the ability to ask about areas. LocalMind doesn't - We route your questions with some heavy tech in the background to the most adequate users on the system, in real-time. LocalMind doesn't have this intelligence in the background which means that at the end of the day, the experience on our system is way more relevant and simply better than on LocalMind.
Here's more info on what we do exactly http://blog.localuncle.com/2011/11/04/know-the-world-in-real...
Thanks! Well, we've only been featured for about 72h now. We're seeing that download rates are doubling daily. And on the first day we got over 1k downloads. You can do the math. People I talked to say that we can expect anywhere from 50k-100k downloads. Let's hope for the best!
I'll definitely put up something on our blog blog.localuncle.com. Just follow us on twitter @localuncle to stay in the loop. Exciting times coming up!

You do need the app. Do you think it would be possible to build it via 4sq messaging system? We were looking into different options, but came to the conclusion that this was the only way to build it.
We're working on it. Main reason to launch US only was not to pull off a color.com type of #faillaunch. But expect LocalUncle to be available worldwide sooner than you think! Follow us at @localuncle on T to stay in the loop.
You're right. I guess that our excitement took over and I kinda forgot the HN etiquette for a moment.
Thanks for this really, really helpful advice! You are definitely right. We got lost in writing way too much text... We like our idea a lot and I guess that's why we wrote that much text. Great feedback!!! I appreciate it a lot!
Thanks for the feedback! We chose the domain cause it has a good ring to it and because it was still available... gotta be scrappy with startups. Do you like the product?
Thanks for the feedback! You mean that the blog is too text-heavy? Have you tried the product and you don't understand what it does?
Do you think our vision is now big enough?
you missed the point completely.your focus is too narrow. there are vast quantities of people on this planet who are working to solve the "real" problems that you mention. your argument does not hold because you are only talking about the base of the maslow hierarchy of needs. OF COURSE there are people whose most basic needs are not solved yet on this planet. You are only argumenting for the lowest levels of the pyramid! Once someone has covered his basic needs and moves up the pyramid "other" types of problems emerge like "how do i watch my favorite tv show on my mobile phone" etc. you have to segment your argument and make it very clear that you are addressing the lower levels of the pyramid.
