I don't think 110 is low for a front-end engineer. Whether or not you are underpaid is more of a question on how much money you need to be happy. Will increasing your pay by 30k per year significantly change your current lifestyle? You should examine if you are happy at your job first, understand how different your life might be if you added 1200 more per month, and determine whether or not that increase will make you happy?

I've always been a believer that if you are truly happy in your work then the pay will not matter much. If you are unhappy in what you do a little more will only make you happy for a short while.

You should store the image size ratio so you can pre-render all of your absolute positions before the images load entirely. There is a jump that happens when you reposition all of the boxes after the images load. noticed on a slow connection

Given the stature of the Judges involved I wonder if the event would be seen as a good thing. There seems to be a shift in tech to the degree that a celebrity backing may be what's required for the rise of the next great startup. Starting to see a lot of this, just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the whole 'celeb involvement'?

I do the same thing when I over-think. It's overload and background noise in my head. I go through a couple waves every year with very bad panic attacks for a few good weeks, usually triggered by stress. I notice it's when I have a hunch to do something but then delay on it for a few minutes/hours/etc. starts as a restless feeling which then leads to dervish behavior then thoughts directed internally... leading to hyper ventilation, heart palpitations, etc. Good advice I'll have to try that next time.

I've gone through this too off and on for as long as I can remember. Mainly it was just the fascination with the thought of what I would experience after death. To be honest if you catch yourself thinking this way it can be scary like you said. I have just decided to look at it and laugh, and it makes it not so terrifying, maintain a sense of humor. I would never want to take my own life- it's probably the lamest ending to any persons life. But I have to admit I think this way a lot. Also, happens when watching movies where people die/get killed in strange ways. My mother passed away in November from pneumonia and now I am constantly paranoid about my health. I've had some serious panic attacks as a result.

Remedies:

1. Go to church. Listen to a podcast on Buddhism, or find something to believe in. 2. Write down or look in the mirror and tell yourself all the positive things about yourself. 3. Laugh about death, have a sense of humor, choose to live, anyone can die. 4. Be different. Do everything differently in your life, wear your underwear outside your pants, listen to music you normally hate. Get outside of being ordinary. It will loosen you up, and give you new perspectives.

At what point does one go from the feeling that they have to do everything themselves to make sure it's right to actually taking the leap of faith to hiring someone. I feel like I am constantly bottle necking growth, but it gets scary. What experiences have you guys had with this? What does it feel like to hire your first employee?

interesting story: I lived in Los Angeles from the age of 19 to now age 26. My mother died this past november. Before this had happened, I was living my life in Los Angeles. I had big ambitions and I knew where they were taking me. Work was in abundance, during which I had been working for myself for three years developing websites, and working on my startups. It was picture perfect in ways that work would come to me.

Now, I live in Sherman Texas, A very small town where I grew up and once dreamed of big things, expensive things which would become mine to keep. The loss of my mother was very difficult, yet I have now opened a new candy store, and leased a large office loft downtown. I've gone through every penny in the transition. One of the most important things that I realize now is that- things in life do not last, whether it be riches of material wealth, love, spirit, or my own motivation. One thing can I can be certain of is my own mindset, temporary defeat, and a loss of hope- or the ultimate poverty.

I currently have a broke down car that beeps as I drive it as if it were a time bomb, too much office space, and an inheritance of real-estate that has become a burden in expenses that I can no longer keep up with. Every new project that comes my way somehow disappears before my eyes (I've never had this much trouble closing a deal).

If you are poor, look up, you're still alive. This life is a series of challenges, breath a fire that ignites your soul. Live to have hope, and continue dreaming. The difference between the rich and the poor is ones drive to act upon a dream, and fight without a moment of doubt.

The poor now, and the poor tomorrow are two different people, the ones who lift their own spirit, and the ones who drown in their spirit of misery.

The really impressive thing about this technology is it's potential in every day 'windows' that we see every day. Example, heads up displays in car windows so that passengers can see information about their surrounding landscapes. That's just one idea but I'm sure you guys can think of more.

I am a stay at home entrepreneur and oftentimes get this sort of flame from my girlfriend or relative. There just isn't a way to measure my work on a per hour basis. The fact is when you fully commit yourself to perusing your own ideas and passions, as mine being web development, you begin to notice that most of the day becomes consumed with the tasks at hand. On most occasions I find myself think through my ideas as I do common chores around the house, even when spending time getting physical exercise. How do we measure this time as productive? The ability to to measure productivity must be in ones ability to set and meet deadlines, yet continue to improve the output quality.

BTW, I use aplus.net to register all my domains. If you put a drop down box to select the register that I would like to use, I think that would be very convenient.

Just purchased 3 domain names, oisie.com (for the shape and look on paper), sayideas.com (maybe a live video site, for idea sharing), idgeo.com (hmm, maybe a tracking solution of some kind)

Break your projects up into milestones

for example:

Milestone One (Prototype, wireframe, database development (if it's dynamic, or just design) then make them pay up front before you start this.

Milestone Two (Slicing and Integration, programming, etc) break that up into another payment.

and usually I make a final milestone for launch like:

Milestone Three (Testing, debugging, content integration, etc) and have them pay you before you launch the website on their server.

Some clients request contracts, use docstoc.com to find "standard web contract" or have a lawyer. As you get better at giving new customers a sense of trust you don't really have to bother, if they don't bring it up.
