long story short, you need 4 things :

1. Determination: as pg always says that most successful people are those who're determined to bring their dream come true.

2. Code: somehow you have to manage to get the source code in your control. ,

3. Backup plan: make plan-b ready for damage control anticipated by your partners leaving project.

4. Speed: buddy, you need speed to roll-out to deal with competition.

i dont understand why mike, icahn and other narrow minded people cant see the whole picture —- i remember michael dell once made similar comments about apple …. look what happened, today apple is much more valuable than dell … if micahel dell (who was an entrepreneur himself) can go wrong then who are these people who have never created anything as big as yahoo …. people should give yahoo and jerry&co. a break and let them run the company the way they want and if you’re not comfy then sell your stocks and run (like a mice) , u will still profit as stock prices has gone up in last 6 months. What i understand is Yahoo has too many money making properties and it can still make more prop and money out of it … following is my questions to all greedy people:

1. please explain me why cant yahoo make money from the text based ad (where they are not that strong) by temporarily leasing it to google - isn’t it a smart move where you make money from both kind of ads (text and display) from the 2 best ad systems?

2. why did yahoo made deal only for north-american market and not for other markets which are much bigger than NA? do you think that jerry is stupid that he is keeping other lucrative market i.e BRIC (brazil, russia, china, india) with him? - cant u see how intelligent he is that he is may be trying to roll out his strategy in these markets and eventually make a strong position?

3. do you think that the whole board of directors of yahoo is stupid to support jerry?

4. dont you know that the biggest loser (monetarily) is jerry himself, and if he is taking risk and let go millions $$ (for short term) then there has to be something in his kitty (the strategy) that he dont want to disclose it right now?, and may be this is the reason why the board of directors are supporting him because they know this internal confidential strategy ... there is always something called trade-secret that you shouldn’t give away no matter how much pressure builds on you by stupid shareholders …

I think if anyone who disagrees with Jerry then they should either sell their stock (and run) OR buy more stock (get the majority) and kick him out - if u dont want to do either then stop making foolish judgments ... everyone is not greedy - there is something like loyalty and integrity and that counts at the end of the day and i think Jerry's loyalty and integrity towards Yahoo is unquestionable.

yahoo made a smart move - problem creators now have to calm down for a while - it will give some time to breath and move their strategy as a success ... kind of wait and watch.

i agree with #6 - this is something like dating a person who speaks your language so that there is this comfort of sharing things while commuting - this also creates instant connection between 2 people, an ice-breaker.

agreed - all the above stuffs helps you to build new products but then you need customers to buy it and if they dont put money in your pocket because they want something that is cross platform and open source then these stuff won't sell or help you to survive. MS has to change the attitude and the path - just like they have to bow down to ODF couple of days a go they have to do the same with all their products.

the history repeats itself - what microsoft did to ibm - google and apple are doing to microsoft - so to survive ms has to do the same what ibm did for survival - i.e. change in leadership, change in vision and change in path.... unless this happens ms is on the way Non-MS.

i like the idea of having wealthy people on board - i have personally experienced that this helps a lot ... also this will create awareness amongst the hi-society people, who sometime just for the sake of status give donations to the same cause/organization.

by the way law is sometimes created by the lobby - in short people who are going to gain a lot ... they own the politicians and make a law , which sometime is not acceptable by general public ... if a particular law is going to impact masses then why not to have referendum before making and passing a bill to create a law.

i think almost every s/w professional from BRIC have used pirated s/w - in fact i read this somewhere that we would have huge skills shortage if there were no pirated s/w available to these smart people of 3rd world countries ... and if the s/w professional were in shortage then prices of tons of products (from air line tickets to chocolate bars) would be much higher than what it is right now ... so in a sense pirated product did created jobs and revenue and economy .... it gave an opportunity to smart people to learn new skills and get employment.

i will start doing things that apple and google will do with that kind of budget. - Fix search engine to make it fast and efficient (like google because ad revenue is all about search). - Create innovative marketing campaign like apple to increase the market share of my search engine usage. - Introduce new and innovative h/w products like apple. - Convert all my apps as web 2.0 apps with optional search and ad feature. I think all of these can be done with way under $45B budget.
