Not going to lie the first thing I thought was, "Why is the John Green book on HN??" I mean, cool, but surprising. Then I read the end and it made more sense ha
Honestly this seems like a good experiment. I am always looking at my phone, but I’m at a very different stage in life than the students at school. With a Nokia phone, it’s not like they wouldn’t be able to communicate with one another or with their parents.
I do worry that it might make it harder for students that struggle finding a group of peers at school and find community online.
As someone who hoards my own old USBs and hard drives, which I don’t think hold anything particularly interesting, this idea was violent at first. But yeah, I get it lol
Interesting considering that Google said it had a strategy that would ensure AI consumed less power. It was based on the 4Ms: model, machine, mechanization, and mapping.
This is awesome! I just played for a while. This may be a dumb question but... how do you win? Please forgive my frazzled brain if I missed the instructions somewhere.
I am just glad that I finally learned that I do not, in fact, have to pay for Adobe Acrobat to be able to edit a PDF and can do it for free in Preview on Mac.
It does kind of look like a sticker now that you mention it. I went over to look at the video of the device itself and it seems like it was just the angle of the photo.
Wow! I had no idea this existed! My family grew up without computers because we had low income. Anyone know what the books were look? Would love to learn more.
Good point! I think part of the tension comes from the fact that there's this idea that AI is superior or will be superior to people. If this is the case, it doesn't make sense for it to make so many mistakes. In a way, you could say that the mistakes mess up our preconceived notion of what AI is supposed to be.
Ditto on the car thing, tho. Much scarier that weird AI photos with too many fingers
"[A] fitness tracker’s ultimate goal is to help you improve your health. Feeling like you can’t rest because of an arbitrary streak is the opposite of improving your health."
Now if I could only stop my Watch from bullying me when I don't move as much as it wants me to (and when) lol
Considering how plastic manufacturers turned recycling into the ultimate false hope, I agree with you. I try to be mindful about my plastic consumption but it is everywhere.
