haha, yes the website is just a fun thing. Boilerplate websites get so boring ;)

Yes, it is in part a skin for loop. Some of the added functionality is to replace the small album art with larger album art when in the album-view. But really, I just wanted the keyboard shortcuts that I like, and I wanted the look that I like. Pretty much, that's it.

That sounds cool... I've not tried making a plugin before. Do you know of a good reference / demo?

Another reason that I wanted a standalone app, is that I hate when I have to flip through tabs or browser windows to find Google Play. I much prefer having the app by itself.

Thanks!

Beautiful/generational land razed for commercial purposes? Welcome to eastern Kentucky and mountain top removal.

I love that instead of trying to be everything to everyone (a la android/ipad) Amazon is aiming to be really good at a few things, and thus drive price down.

I'm not so interested in movies or ebooks, does anyone know of a tablet that just does email and web? and is cheaper because of it?

BTW, Silk browser seems like a bundle of awesome ideas

I can't help but feel that this just isn't the right way to go about helping the less fortunate. It's just too underhanded.

Just build something similar that doesn't involve taking advantage of J's Card. Man up.

Interesting that they have waiting tables in there as a common previous job. That's what it was for me, particularly while I was learning Ruby/Rails.

I would love to see something like this for other computer related jobs

Meeting people isn't always easy. I think that events and social experiments like this can encourage interaction in a new/fun way. At the very least people at the office will be talking about it, which will likely lead to new fruitful interactions.

Certainly it's not more creepy than FB

Cool idea and neat sliders and calculation execution! I agree with most others who say that it's not clear in the first 2 seconds what to do. Perhaps in the header:

h1: weight loss calculator h2: easily plan your diet and exercise routine

I would recommend a numbered-list / stepwise approach for user input (all on the same page still), instead of the all-at-once approach (which is convenient if you know how to use it, but confusing otherwise)

Perhaps have a time indicator that says something like, "it will take 2 months for you to lose 20 lbs at this rate"

From a comment in the USA today that the OP linked to:

Interpretation and Confirmation that the end day of Mayan 2012 is sure and near.

Mayan=may-an

may=can=know=knowledge=wisdom

wis=know; -dom=doom=The Judgment Day

an=and=十=X=Jesus Christ

Mayan 2012= know the end day Jesus Christ 2012

wow, just wow.

The only reason I might come up with to stick w prototype is that it takes time to switch you app to jQuery. That's the ONLY one. jQuery is too easy to learn; way more community -- and in that regard, Scriptaculous is pretty much dead.

if RoR you can use jRails to try to keep functionality in your app (if that's what you use)

Agree. The thing about talking to a talk-therapist / counselor / psychologist / priest... is that they are outside of your world, they don't know all the drama and back-story, and when you talk to them you are in a way outside of your everyday world, able to look in upon it from the outside and perhaps see things differently, more clearly (hopefully). Sometimes our personal drama and back-story and life-scaffolding is what gets in the way.

There's not really much substance to this article. It would be interesting if the somewhat recent threads regarding nocebo/placebo responses were extended to ghosts.

I think the main thing to realize regarding the Fundamental Attribution Error is that when committing the error you are judging others and yourself on differing criteria.

For example, if you, when experiencing 'bad luck', tend to recognize its source as your environment rather than qualities of your person, it would be because of the Fundamental Attribution Error that you would incorrectly assume that the same 'bad luck' experienced by someone else is because of some qualities of that person rather than their environment. In many cases, especially with regard to 'good luck' it's just the opposite: For yourself you see the 'good-luck' as coming from YOU, for others you see the 'good-luck' as coming from their environment.

It's been helpful for me to remember these things especially when someone ticks me off or whatever... It's incorrect to assume that my neighbor being a douche is because deep down he is a douche-bag, rather than because of his crappy morning that I know nothing about. I would want to be given the same courtesy.
