Given the nations that have actually bought influence over our government officials, China would be an upgrade. I doubt the president needs another decked out 747 though.

I can't agree more. Addiction treatment is expensive and out of reach for people who, lets say, aren't part of a political dynasty, and the money we dump into the war on drugs could fund free rehab for people who want to get better. I've been using 10-20mg of cannibis edibles per evening for a few years and I've never needed to increase my dosage.

And Yeah, I experimented with Kratom for stress/anxiety/sleep problems. It sucks. Your tolerance increases rapidly, and at the rate I was taking it, withdrawals weren't that bad, but it wasn't fun either.

I think the way I use AI for software development isn't too different from the way you do. I use it primarily as a research tool. I admit it's making me weaker at sifting through documentation, but I am still writing the bulk of my code myself, and whatever the LLM writes for me, I apply my own style to it.

The way I look at it is that if I wasn't on HN, I would just assume the entire industry was 100% on board with all of this. There is a more than fair amount of pushback on this forum, which gives me a little bit of hope.

I have this mindset too. I use LLMs too, but strictly as a helper. nothing goes in my code that I don't understand, or that doesn't follow the style of the rest of the project. It's a great research tool, although I can already feel my documentation reading skills diminishing slightly.

Learning to code will never not make sense. It will never make sense to me why software engineers are so eager to make the skills they've developed over years obsolete.
