I have had the very same keyboard shown in the article for more than ten years and it still works perfectly, although I was a bit disappointed at the time because it didn't feel quite the ones in the laptops. Lately though, I went all nostalgic and undusted an old IBM 1391405, that clicks like a charm while I am typing this.

Well, 100 is a lot of work, but I think some of the YC top startups fit quite well: let's say Dropbox, Disqus or Stripe.

You took your words right of my mouth, well my keyboard. It is surprisingly true almost nine years later, it is probably more true now than it was then, or at least it has been proven to be more true, if that is even possible.

I loved this series too. I even remember reading this very article back in the day when I was learning about game development. Sometimes when I go to my old room at my parent's house and I see the game boxes in the shelf, I am tempted to install at least one of them and try to get back that feeling you talk about. I never have done it because I know deep down it will never be the same

Sorry to blow my own horn, but a few months ago we launched a similar project called Quolony https://quolony.com (we are a small startup from Salamanca, Spain). Right now we are working as a free service and we plan to publish it as open-source in the next few months. People can use it individually using a browser extension or in whole sites including our library. We have avatars, synchronized text selection, private and public chats, persistence, cobrowsing, file transfers and a lot more.

At the low level, we extend the browser event model to make it easier to use it in existing applications.

I think the real problem is we don't really have democracy: once every four years we are allowed to pick between Coke or Pepsi and then we hand over all our power to a bunch of people until the next election.
