Surprisingly, ROCm support has been getting a lot better over the very recent years. In my experience the pytorch support is essentially seamless between CUDA and ROCm. I totally agree. I was really excited about GSX when I first heard about them from Costco. However when you dig deeper into what they will deliver from Costco (or other stores for that matter) perishable items like milk, eggs, etc. are for some reason not on the list. It essentially makes the service useless for me since I'll have to go to those stores to get my regular perishable items anyway.

I was disappointed they didn't include internal network latency variability like they did with disk performance. I've seen EC2 have wildly different network latencies at times, but haven't tried any of the other services.

Maybe check out Spark [1], it primarily supports Scala and they have great streaming functionality that seems to beat out Storm and others in terms of performance for some workloads [2].

The NSF GRFP provides ~3k/month plus tuition and health insurance are covered. If you do a 3-month internship each summer on top of that you can get an extra $20k-30k easy. I am not saying you'll have the same lifestyle as a Google employee but I think it's hard to argue that you will go into debt. Maybe I live a more modest lifestyle than others. Also all the schools I got into when I applied to grad school would pay health care/tuition, that's standard.
How exactly would you be racking up debt as a computer science Ph.D student? You don't pay for tuition, you get paid a pretty decent stipend + health insurance and you probably will do many industry/research internships (where you get paid very well). I say this with experience, as I am a CS Ph.D student and make more than enough to live on with a modest lifestyle and I have no debt. Plus if you get an outside fellowship, which most successful students do, you'll essentially be able to work on just about anything you want (I don't think this can be said for a random Google employee, however this is probably true for a YC founder). The Ph.D lifestyle is pretty great imho...at least in CS (non-CS, that's a whole other story).

It is the tight integration with the current messaging application on the iPhone that will possibly kill sms. The average user does not want to go through some 3rd-party app to deal with their text messages. If an average user sees no difference in complexity between using ATT/Verizon sms and iMessage it seems obvious which one they would choose.
I agree, it would be awesome to have an open standard for sms. It is ludicrous that phone companies have been able to charge so much for sms as long as they have.
One somewhat nice solution for desktop sms is google voice, it's pretty handy but not the ideal solution I think you and many of us are looking for.
What I am curious about is if there would be anything stopping someone from paying the $25 once to convert all of their previously pirated tracks to "legit" 256 kbps AAC tracks...this seems strange to me.
I would definitely think it would be shared, I highly doubt the labels would agree to it otherwise.
My biggest complaint with Google Docs is related to consistent formatting. I am anxious to see how MS handles this. I do agree that for pure collaboration, Google Docs is currently unmatched.

Hey, I am not disputing that the content isn't worth while. I just would rather have it in paperback (which is already out, I believe) so it's cheaper and easier to flip through. But I guess that is just my personal preference.
