Looks useful and I like the UI, it reminds me of UniFi. After a few minutes I had to force-quit and sent a report. I will buy it, I love messing about and have a reasonably complex home network and have been getting by with a mix of Unix and homemade tools; this is nicer.

Having paid for and enjoyed Narwhal and Apollo, I really hated the official app. After some digging, I found https://github.com/lo-cafe/winston and that's working for me. It's not simple - you have to generate your own Reddit app id and secret, be able to Xcode from source and have a valid Apple ID to install the IPA, but it's worth it to me to spite the enshittified app.

The Vinegar extension for iOS and Mac completely solves YT ads. Paid, and so worth it.

Another vote for Fastmail - family of four here and it’s been rock solid for several years now. A bit pricy but we consider it good value for money.

That sounds like its been magnetized, which is easy to have happen and cheap to repair. You can DIY with a tool from eBay or amazon.

One of the big problems with mechanicals in this day and age is the prevalence of rare earth magnets in all sorts of places, e.g. the iPad has 11 of them, as do many bags. It’s quite easy to accidentally magnetize your watch, and amagnetic movements are still uncommon. (Omega, new ETA, some Rolex).

I’ve started blogging again and encourage others to do so as well. The HN crowd can lead by example.

I built a purely local version using the Raven USB Zigbee modem, flask and D3.js. Crude, uses SQLite but might be of interest. The XML decoding is only hard part really.

True but incomplete. FB and similar make money on bulk collection. They do care but mostly in the aggregate. More data is directly related to more ad revenue.

Thank you - this is a wonderful thing to have on mobile. I hate going from my home wifi, where I use squid guard + blacklists, onto LTE. This seems to catch most of the crud and the performance hit is acceptable.

Reciprocity is the most-basic of interactions. Wish more people understood it better. Unfortunately, it seems like kiss up, kick down prevails.

Groups must persist; therefore a group must sacrifice to ensure that the actual next generation is created and cared for. Schools, parental leave, etc, are all required. Any society that neglects these would seem to be self-limiting.
