Anonymous editing is a real problem for Wikipedia. There are already numerous "edit wars" by anonymous editors - mostly on ideological/political issues, but also celebrity people changing articles about them to remove criticism, for example. These abuses/debates will likely continue to get worse. That's why we at phdtree wiki project (http://phdtree.org/) don't allow anonymous editing.

What Wikipedia needs is a good karma system, like the one used by HN.

Let's say, you're a first year PhD student trying to decide which research lab to join, you narrow it down to three labs, you can check the three professors to see 1) who their ancestors were 2) where their former lab members ended up to be, industry or academia, etc.

Yes, we want to build a database of academic family tree across all fields, not just math, not just physics, not just chemistry. Scientific research is becoming increasingly interdisciplinary.

When you think about it, the modern discipline of computer science emerged in the 20th century. Most of the first generation computer scientists are actually either physicists or mathematicians.

We're a tiny team of two people working on this side project over nights and weekends. Essentially it is a Wiki site that allows users to create & edit their academic family tree. So far all the basic wiki functions like CRUD, tracking edit history, compare different versions, reverting back to previous versions, simple search, advanced search, etc are completed. It is built with Django/Python.

We would really appreciate it if Hacker News community can provide some feedback/comments/suggestions. Many many thanks :)

Rejection by YC does not mean your idea/team/execution is not good. Just keep working on your startup, in the mean time you may want to try some other top programs like techstars, 5000startups, angelpad, etc

20% * $10,000 / $499 = 4, 4 / 2% = 200.

May I ask over how long a period did the sale pass $10,000? What is your average daily # of sales?
