That out of the way, though, and assuming that child pornography leads to child abuse, the good pro-pornography case that has been made is that when pornography is suppressed rather than regulated, the 95% of people who are exclusively interested in adult pornography will have to go through the same underground channels that child pornography flows through, thus having the perverse effect of exposing more people to child pornography (or at least obtaining access to it.) If exposure to child pornography causes child abuse, then the suppression of adult pornography would then lead to more child abuse.

Wrong. If I have a business relationship with MS where I've agreed to accept adware, this is meaningful. If I've bought a monitor that never informs me that it is installing adware, especially adware on their servers that could change at any time, this is a problem. It is different when the mailman opens my mailbox than when the person who cuts my grass opens my mailbox.

The problem isn't that your Windows PC can end up running software because a device was plugged in, that's actually convenient and a benefit to many people and that works in Linux.

It's also a problem that Linux has allowed itself to be invaded by a creepy octopus of a user-hating system with tons of mutual dependencies, trying to gradually replace everything on your OS.

The problem is that Windows is running things without your explicit approval. The problem with Windows and new Linux is that it even has the ability to do so. Security became protecting the system from the user, rather than protecting the user from the network and devices.

The idea that userspace can do anything in userspace is a bit of a red herring, though. The question is how the malware gets into userspace in the first place. In the case of Windows and systemd, the malware is integral to the OS itself.

I don't think this is true at all. I think most are seeded through simple residential connections. The main reasons people use seedboxes are because everybody has a laptop that travels with them and isn't powered up and networked all the time (rather than a desktop that is never turned off), or because they don't want to hear from their ISP. It's not because of "beefiness." The amount of data it takes to store or transfer an album is trivial.

I just think that a lot of people with very mainstream tastes drifted away from p2p as they realized that spotify etc. satisfied all their needs. The people left on private p2p are largely the people who trading things that aren't available on streaming, or who just don't like the streaming experience at all.
