This pisses me off actually. How detached from reality can you be. AI makes the job market place very unpredictable and smart people predict it won't be so good. Then you expect young people to be super excited about AI.

I like AI and im an AI Engineer but I hate the fact that AI is used to destroy jobs. It would be fine if jobs disappeared if there were alternatives but it's not. It's straight to unemployment. The worst hasn't happened yet but its coming.

Rich people are limited resources and they would not buy 100 yatches even if they could afford it. As seen in history if the majority of people in a country is poor, revolution is just a matter of time. It's in a countries best interest to make sure wealth at least somewhat evenly distributed. At least good enough so the masses won't get angry.

The economy isn't ready. Basically, all companies right now are sprinting toward increasing profit margins by trying to do more with fewer people. The problem is that, on this scale, they will lose income because unemployed people make terrible consumers, they will only buy what is strictly necessary. Consequently, society is in a race to the bottom, which could lead to extreme suffering and potential revolutions in many countries. Democracies will likely have it easier in general because everyone shares the responsibility, in a sense, through voting. However, the USA, which is extremely polarized—will have a tough time because animosity between the political sides is already at an all-time high, even without an economic collapse. China, on the other hand, will also be in a difficult situation. If the West collapses financially, consumption of Chinese-produced goods will drop drastically. This will create massive unemployment in China, causing public rage to increase. In a non-democratic country, it is much easier for the population to point the blame in a single direction.

I spent a week with Clojure and coming from other functional languages my problem was not Clojure, it was dynamic typing. I got strange bugs in the standard library because I accidentally sent in nested incompatible instances of objects and it was really hard to figure out what was wrong in a quick way. With typesafe languages you are stopped at compile time.

100% governments needs to crack down on these manufacturers and basically say that if China does not stop this insanity then importing them in to the US or EU will become illegal since its a national and personal security risk.

Nobody is even trying to make the trust better either which is odd. If you have a baseline distrust as soon as people ar are going to get unemployed most people will feel unsafe in their job position. This will quickly escalate the distrust.

Fun thing, today (1 hour ago) the 13:th may i was lookig for a typechecker with AI in what is popular right now because these things changes. I have been following pyrefly and ty before. Then i decided to go with pyrefly and added it. Noticed it was 1.0.0 which as odd because that is very special. How could i have missed that. Then I checked the blog and saw it was released yesterday. What a happy surprise to get a 1.0 as fresh delivery straight in to my project. Nice work!

There will be no winners in this once the jobs start to disappear. There is no 1:1 with new human-in-the-loop jobs. Its basically in the definition. We go from being the loop to be "in the loop" .. huge difference.

It's not so easy, they need phones and social media to communicate with their friends. They also need to fit in and find an identity. The algorithms basically all engagement engines have is harmful for humanity as a whole. They are marketed as recommendation engines but it's 100% about engagement and that is why the content you see is mostly creating dopamine from it being fun or rage for it being provocative. It's built to serve one purpose, to keep people using the platform as much as possible. Not because the platform is good, but because it serves content that maximizes engagement.

I read a post about someone saying his wife worked for a snack company. They used MRI scans to see how much salt (or sugar) they should have in the snacks to maximize the response in the brain. Sounds disturbing right.

Well engagement engines are the same thing. It's artificial intelligence optimized to get people to react and stay addicted. Basically AI doing harm. It's not what is best for the individual in terms of health. It's what generates most money to the owner of the platform.

It should not be allowed to build a business around something that exploits humans brains. Basically biohacking our brains for profit.

Governments and companies are so bad at selling AI to the population.The reason is the elephant in the room. Everyone or at least most understand the consequences. You can't sit and be amazed at the speed an AI does tasks and not be able to extrapolate what that would mean for jobs.

If it's that much faster then perhaps it can come up with 10 solutions and rank them and still have a total better performance than a larger LLM.

Humans will never give up untill ASI is achieved or humanity is destroyed before it achieves. It's inevitable. Its an unstoppable drive. ASI will be a as a god. A subject probably avoided in these conversations.

If you know how to write good code you can force AI to write good code with various techniques. It's 100% doable. You just need to figure out the problems AI has and find solutions to make it easier for it. Ex: extremely small contexts Modularize to modules with clear boundaries and only allow the AI to work within those boundaries. Make modules pure from IO so they are easily testable. Hide modules behind interfaces etc .. You can write 100 tests that executes within a second. You can write benchmarks etc .. AI needs boundaries and small contexts to work well. If you fail to give it that it will perform poorly. You are in charge.

With agentic coding you can just use Rust. AI agents are really good at Rust and the good error message the compiler and or borrow checker gives makes it easy for the AI agent to adjust its code and fix it.

For non agentic coding Go has terrible error handling. It does not have exceptions or monadic error handling. Some call that a feature but many avoid Go or that specific reason. This will not change because that debate has been settled so if you can live with if err != nil after each function call (almost) then you are fine.

Things that is beautiful with Go are: * Its simplicity * Superb cross compilation support and excellent support for many different OS/arch combos. Not sure if anything comes close to this level of easy way of compiling to Many targets and target support.
