I am a devops engineer working mostly with platform engineering managing over 80 eks clusters, I am learning more AI an embracing AI, it makes my job much easier and helps me write tooling faster. I notice people at work that resists AI and like to do things the way they have been doing it for years. I wrote an Azure wrapper that helps my team debug kuberntes issues in real time using AI , it also analyzes deployments and makes recommendations and this has caught the attention of teams that are now using my tool to debugg their workloads.

My company already is doing a hiring freeze and we have a lot of work so having tools like OpenAI has been invaluable to help me with my daily work.

one field that is highly paid is devops . not very difficult to learn either.

you are very lucky to be in your 30's, there are so many things you can do after work. Join a gym, volunteer, online dating is fun in my 30's I had dates almost every week got to meet a bunch of beautiful girls, also got into running and joined a running club, volunteer. also going to a bar is fun you can go to a bar and just meet a few locals in your neighborhood. Also it depends on where you live. maybe if you are working as a developer you can get a job that is fully remote and travel and work from some fun place like Thailand or Spain .

it was so sad seeing those people hanging onto the jet engines of american planes to later fall off :( , what makes someone forget reality and assume that they would be able to survive a trip on a jet engine ? Desperation ?

I hope the Taliban might be a little more moderate this time and that innocent people won't lose their lives because now they are in power.

this could be a great project. also the raspberry pi is very affordable. However, i think the best raspberry pi would be the raspberry pi 3 as the raspberry pi 4 requires a different ac adapter with usbc c and also a special hdmi cable so that increases the price of entry.

Even writing a game system for the raspberry pi zero w would be amazing.

I wrote these utilities not on company time but my own time. I automate a lot of stuff since I also did a lot of AWS consulting.

Hi, I think you should not try to sell yourself as a Data Scientist. I have worked for many startups and in the past they felt they needed to hire a data scientist, however many of them are expected to be able to do data engineering/ devops. Automation with AWS/ Azure in addition to running their analytic workloads in whatever the latest and greatest is at the moment. Eventually the companies do not see value on that role and i have seen those rolls being chopped. If you know data engineering and manage full analytic pipelines in aws, and automation with terraform , cloudformation that will open up the doors for many roles. Hope that might give you some idea on how to market yourself here :)

I use both mac and windows and when i need to use command line utilities i use MobaXTerm give it a try is a really nice terminal for windows and also allows you to install other unix utilities .

while your phone is out for repair can you call the repair person and ask him to give you the code sent from google?

thank you , I care about the company and i don't think i want to leave because i think highly of myself and i think this is beneath me, I just feel someone else could do this role and find it a better fit than me. I am a cloud infrastructure engineer with lots of experience that I can't use here since this job can be done by a linux administrator. I will chat about the need to bring devops and hopefully they know i come from a good side and not being critical of what they do.

thank you for your advice. I never want to leave bad impressions. In fact i respect my employer and i think anyone would just coast and get paid at this job but that is not me. It is not fair to them and it is not fair to me as i feel i am regressing instead of learning .

Guy is amazing and has helped a lot of people who were in so much pain even while walking into his office these people were suffering and almost immobile and after a visit they felt much better. Thanks for your suggestion. I was trying to run docker but docker does not run on the Raspberry pi zero w. I wanted to run etcd as a docker container but the zero w is not powerful enough or a good docker distribution does not exit. I can install etc using Ansible :) so I might try that.

I worked at a few WeWorks and many of their floors had rooms that were vacated and empty. When we left We Work they offered us big discounts so that we would not leave them. If a recession hits I think they will lose a great deal of customers.

Hi, Yes this was a very simple project. Basically I had a raspberry pi zero w , installed apache and setup a virtual host that forwards all request to a another back end. Basically the Kiwix software that serves the wikipedia Zim file runs on port 8080. The raspberry pi has a 32 gig card and not enough space to host the 82 gigs of the wikipedia zim file. I had a spare external drive that I formatted in ext4. Originally the drive was formatted as extended FAT32 but the raspberry pi showed a lot of high CPU when accessing the Fat32 partition. I formatted it to ext4 and mounted the volume and downloaded the wikipedia zim file. Then I created an index file for Kiwix server and, started the Kiwix server and restarted apache had wikipedia running on a raspberry pi zero w. It did crash, I was thinking of adding cloud front as I have a free AWS account but I haven't got to it yet :)

off topic: If you have a raspberry pi zero w and a large SD card you can download kiwix an offline wikipedia reader that has a built in webserver. It is amazing how you can download wikidedia full or subsets of it and have it running out of a raspi w zero. I am working on a walkthrough on how to do it so I will be posting an article soon.

I have a raspberry pi zero w that I use with PivPN and Pihole and also I compiled tor on it. I can vpn into my home network , use tor as my socks 5 proxy and I also use pinhole to deal with tracking and advertising. best 5 dollars I've ever spent.

it depends I don't use it for local development. It is a great way to launch local machines but if all you are doing is coding apps with python/ node ./ruby etc then vagrant is overkill when you can use docker compose and docker files. What project are you working on ?

Microcenter sells them for 5 dollars. This is the first unit. I happen to have one close to my home so I've been able to buy a few of them, I just buy one each time i go there. I am building retropie machines for my friends so i get them for 5 bucks. you can only buy one pi zero w for 5 dollars. but you can always come back and buy more.

how are you going to support yourself while you decide to go to a bootcamp? Also is there a specific bootcamp you are looking to attend and also the cost?

I don't see why you couldn't learn these things on your own as there are TONS of resources online, Udemy, books, Free Online tutorials.

I worked at a company where they started using kubernetes very early on. It was a mess, we configured it and provisioned with CoreOS and Ansible. it was suck a Mess.

Then I moved to another company and we used ECS and it worked and did the job but 3 months ago i started learning kubernetes on my own. From provisioning a cluster to deploying workloads and i can tell you that Kubernetes is great. It is not that complicated to install and to extend and support. The kubernetes documentation is really all you need. I am using kubernetes and find that things are easier to manage than when we had to provision instances with puppet or chef . Everything is a container and we can deploy containers or roll them back with ease.

The problem with Kubernetes is not kubernetes itself, I think the problem is that developers should spend time learning docker and how to create and package docker containers with their applications and setup CI/CD pipelines to deploy such containers into kubernetes. the challenge is . that many developers are not using docker for local development and don't know best practices on how to develop containers. but it would take a couple of more years to resolve these issues. Kubernetes is great . Also i got to preview EKS and their setup is a bit of a mess and pricy

Learn to provision your own clusters . Would be my advice.

Have you gotten any help while you were not attending work? Are you taking medication or seeing a therapist? I think you can try to be honest with your manager and explain what you are going through ask them for an extension and that you will work to meet deadlines and also seek help. Worrying and being scared won't solve your problems so you need to take action and try so salvage your role. I suffer from depression and there are times where i would've love nothing more than to stay home and not deal with work, but at the end of the day I know i have to be responsible for my condition and seek help. I got medication and therapy and i am functional nothing is perfect but i still have a job and have to manage. You can do it , just talk to your boss or HR.
