This is so cringe. Who are the people behind this god awful "national design studio", and how are they related to MAGA / Trump? Assuredly yet another insider cronyism deal that degrades trust in the US government.

Claude:

The National Design Studio (NDS) is a new White House agency that Trump created by executive order on August 21, 2025, as part of an initiative called "America by Design." It lives inside the White House Office of the Executive Office of the President.

The setup

The executive order established the NDS along with a new position: Chief Design Officer of the United States

Trump appointed Joe Gebbia (Airbnb co-founder) as the first Chief Design Officer

Gebbia previously worked at DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) alongside Elon Musk on modernizing federal retirement paperwork

The stated goal: overhaul roughly 26,000 federal websites and physical government interfaces to be "both usable and beautiful" — Gebbia has compared the target experience to "the Apple Store"

Initial results are required by July 4, 2026 (the US 250th anniversary), and the temporary organization within NDS is scheduled to sunset after three years

The midterms are not going to go according to anything like historical precedent. If allowed to function normally, Trump loses, and the whole stack of cards collapses. They know that, and will do literally anything and everything to prevent it. If allowed to get away with it, the US is never coming back.

Civil unrest very likely in November.

The blog post would have been more effective with a specific example of what it solves, a demo, or at least some anecdotes of what this has already solved via these integrations. As it stands, it comes off rather self-aggrandizing and a bit desperate, as though Wolfram tech perceives itself as threatened to remain relevant.

This is an important message.

Lately I've been just sickened by Apple, and particularly Tim Cook. The guy is revealing himself to be completely amoral.

Perhaps it was naive to assume otherwise, but celebrate at the "Melania" screening with the same people that labeled Alex Pretti as a "domestic terrorist", on the night of his murder? WTAF.

Apple employees - what are you doing to push back on this? Staying silent?

Why now?

I mean, they certainly know that introducing ads with be a huge motivation for consumers to seek other options.

The primary differentiator of OpenAI is first mover advantage; the product itself is not particularly unique anymore.

IMHO consumers will quickly realize that switching to an alternative AI provider is easy and probably fun.

This seems premature to give up their moat in the name of revenue. Are they feeling real financial pressure all of the sudden? Maybe I'm missing something. Looks like a big win for Google and Anthropic.

If this turns out to be real, a direct shot to the left carotid artery. Theoretically could be survivable but not without serious deficit and stroke. Agree likely fatal.

This resonates with me. I feel like AI is making me learn slower.

For example, I am learning Rust, for quite awhile now. While AI has been very helpful in lowering the bar to /begin/ learning Rust, it's making it slower to achieve a working competence with it, because I always seem reliant on the LLM to do the thinking. I think I will have to turn off all the AI and struggle struggle struggle, until I don't, just like the old days.

Does not really say /how/ it's performing a web search... Is it tapping into it's "own" corpus of material or calling out to some other web search engine?

You ain't seen nothing yet.

In a few short weeks, Trump imploded the fundamental US brand from good to um, pretty much pure evil. We are untrustworthy backstabbers. Rightly so, people hate us now; they are literally burning the American flag all over the world. USA products and services are toxic items. Not that we make much money off the travel industry, but you'd have to be a complete idiot to vacation in (or really even travel to) the US now.

It's going to get really ugly; I don't think people get it yet.

Yes, it's completely spineless.

For all the intelligence they seem to purport, being complicit in supporting the takedown of democracy and the once good name of the US... Catastrophe for business, the startup world, and innovation.

Don't s** where you sleep.

And all those crypto bros thinking this would be a good thing... They seemed to forget that blockchain participation is essentially a luxury item. A dead economy is awful for crypto.

As an American, I'm disgusted.

In my view the only way to solve this is through a complete and utter rejection of all things USA. People of Europe and the world, you can help by immediately stop buying American products, halt any travel plans you might have had here, have your goverments embargo us. Do everything in your power to crush our economy.

We need something extreme to make these MAGA folk and the Republicans in power break out of this authoritarian fever dream they are in.

I'd rather see this country get sick and vomit what needs to be expelled rather than have it die a slow death from this cancerous group-think that has overtaken half our population.

This is utter garbage; a thinly-disguised dogwhistle sales propaganda targeting Trump's ear so Palatir will get picked to build new AI systems that the government will ultimately use to against the US and global population. FU Karp.

Noted, appreciate your opinion.

The OP says in the signup that if you meet up in person and tweet a photo, he'll re-tweet you through the meet.hn x handle. Sounds benign, and it mostly is.

I'm just personally uncomfortable supporting an otherwise good cause wherein x.com gets more attention and data about the good folks on HN, because I really don't trust them and their data governance.
