As a father of 3, I’m kind of guilty of that prejudice myself.

It is not towards Brazilians themselves, which I frankly respect, but because of the low quality stuff my kids are exposed to on the internet. You just can’t avoid it and of having the kids gravitate towards YouTube instead of better entertainent channels.

Random dumb YouTubers doing shit for giggles and overly sexualized funk music. And the shorts, oh the shorts crap everywhere, in all languages.

I don’t have a problem with my kids watching “manual do mundo” or “Paula stefania”. Or “porta dos fundos” myself. Good stuff.

On the other hand, Apple developer relations suports Brazilian Portuguese only, when they do not distinguish between variants of English, French and Spanish: I had to submit an English translation of a plain simple and clear document because my Portuguese version was rejected.

I tend to hoard things sometimes: links, notes, screenshots with useful tidbits, scraps of paper with notes…

One of the things I keep is the list of stuff I did during the day for when the standup call comes. Sometimes I forgot of mention a lot of stuff.

Then a few weeks ago I build the MVP of a note taking app specifically for this purpose: what did I do, what am I doing next, am I blocked by something?

No backend, data is stored in browser local storage, quick to load, a weekly summary and data export. No tracking whatsoever.

Not ready yet, which is why I didn’t do a Show HN feature yet, but has been useful to me even in its current state.

It lives at https://tinyleaps.app

I'm getting used to Linux again after 20+ years of Mac OS.

First, just using more cross-platform software on my Mac. Ditched Safari for Firefox; replaced my MacOS-only password manager; using iMessage less.

Bought the cheapest Framework 13 laptop, running stock Fedora. Omarchy is interesting but too weird for me. Gnome, is still familiar enough.

Using the Linux machine more and more, feels very fresh. To be honest not feeling this excited in a long time. Perhaps the year of Linux on the desktop is indeed coming.

Congratulations on this project, excellent idea.

I sometimes used a FaceTime call between an iPad and my phone as a make shift baby monitor. Audio only, I don’t think video is really necessary. In fact, our Angelcare monitor at home was audio only.

Ours also had sleep apnea detection (a mat to put below the mattress), perhaps the accelerometers could be used to detect lack of movement.

Two side projects, as if 3 kids are not enough!

- a booking platform for surfing schools - a tool for pelvic physiotherapy practitioners handle appointments and exercise prescriptions

Doing backend and frontend for both, but there is a small team helping with #2. Both come from actual needs of actual businesses.

Tech is pretty standard typescript, react and node.

Would love to be working on these full time.

Eels are fish 11 months ago

Where I live in Portugal glass eels are a seasonal delicacy (galeota/meixão). There is much confusion about the nature of this fish, as the same name is reused across the country, but I believe it is glass eel.

I don't like it and it seems to be going out of style with younger generations, which is good as its fishing is not sustainable.

I have one of these, sitting in a box since I bought it for peanuts many years ago (sold as a 48K).

I like it but, due to lack of time and expertise to take care of it, I have been debating whether to keep or donate all my old machines the local ZX Spectrum museum a short drive away from me. Certainly a brighter future than a box somewhere...

There are now plenty of other high-quality BEV to choose from.

And Tesla had an edge but it has been eroding with some idiotic decisions (like the no stalks model 3) and Elon's recent behavior completely destroyed the brand to those mostly likely to buy one.

I agree. And between these practices, ads everywhere for services such as Apple TV+, Music, iCloud storage, etc and some feeling that software quality is declining and focused on fluff (emojis, etc) I have decided to start looking around for alternatives but it won't be easy...
