I am developing a Pythonic alternative to ArgoCD and FluxCD that uses no CRDs or in-cluster controllers for continuous delivery of applications to Kubernetes clusters
OMG! No! Having dealt with Go templates in the context of writing Helm charts, I would say this is not a a great idea. Please, invent a better templating language for Go, and then perhaps go down this path. That being said, I am not a great fan of templates in any language. Jinja2 might be a heck of a lot better than Go templates but it can still be hard to get right.
There is no protecting against pre conceived notions. If a Typescript programmer, for example, expects Python to behave like Typescript then that is on them. Typescript has types. Python has type hints. RTFM for God’s sake.
I ought to warn anyone considering this: milk weed spreads like a weed. If you plant one, don’t be surprised if you get a half dozen of them in your garden by next year
I made a volcano out of plaster of Paris. The cool bit was that for the eruption I used potassium permanganate in the volcano’s cone and poured glycerin on it to ignite the volcano.
In the past, I have found community - and many lifelong friendships - in a ballroom & latin dance community. Currently, I find community in hiking groups.
Drinking, much like smoking, starts in the teenage years, not as an act of rebellion but as an aspirational goal of adulthood. It's something adolescents will frequently see as a marker of adulthood and reach for the marker as a way to bridge the difficult years where they are too old to be children and quite there as adults. Of course, these markers take on a life of their own, even when they have outlived their original purpose.
FWIW I made a career switch in my late 20s. It involved going to grad school to be able to switch to a new career. It ended badly for me though because I graduated as the Great Recession was starting but that I could not have foreseen when I went back to school.
Idempotency is great to have and almost always non existent. It is just infuriating as a dev to keep coming across this mirage of an idea. I don’t get to reprocess the same bill twice without bad consequences. I don’t get to ship the same order twice.
To get things started,
Wayfair has a 90-day hiring freeze. https://fortune.com/2022/05/17/wayfair-freezes-hiring-90-day...
No talk yet of reduction in force. That was then. The stock has taken a beating bigger than the NASDAQ since the announcement so who knows what's coming down the turnpike.
With respect, has there been any social science or psychological studies on the "fierce nerd" and its observed characteristics as Graham has noted here?
The commute to & from work is 2.5 hours of my life for which I don't get paid. This is time away from my school-age kids. Not to mention everytime there is a Covid scare in any one of their classes, I will have a kid who has to transition to online learning. No, I really don't see how I can justify going back
I have been listening to the Michael Pollan audiobook "How to Change Your Mind" https://smile.amazon.com/How-to-Change-Your-Mind-audiobook/d...
Fascinating subject and I am going through some personal issues which has put me in a funk, not that I wasn't depressed before the latest crop of issues. I am glad states have started the process of decriminalizing substances that hold therapeutic promise for mental issues. Nothing has worked on me so far so I hold out hope for psilocybin as the one that finally snaps me out of it.
