I am working with a colleague of mine on Handout Generator (https://handouts.cthulhuarchitect.com) which is a website you can use to create fake documents and handouts to be used in different TTRPG, especially investigative ones like Call of Cthulhu.

It is going pretty well, already 17k users signed up. There are many people using it daily which give me the motivation to continue working on this.

I just wish I had more time to spend on this instead of the boring CRUD app I work on for living.

I've been using zoho. It just gets out of the way, but I mostly use email clients and their web interface rarely, but it seems good enough. And their prices are much lower than competitors.

I am using node-red to control some lamps e.g. when it is getting dark and my phone is around (check bluetooth connection) then turn on the living room lamp.

I hate messing with nginx and ssl configurations that why I tried caprover (https://caprover.com/) on a vultr server. It handles ssl through let's encrypt and it even includes some nice monitoring tool. It needs some familiarity with docker if you want to fully use its features but in general I am running it on 2 servers with success and I am very happy. I totally recommend it.

I almost never use an alarm to wake up. Whenever I use an alarm I wake up 5-10 minutes earlier and I wonder if the alarm went off or not. I consider this some kind of anxiety because usually I use an alarm to e.g. catch a flight

I have worked many times on ugly and on beautiful code. What I consider ugly is not always ugly for other developers and the other way around.

I bought recently a 3rd generation lenovo x1 carbon from ebay and I am really happy with all the mobility provided. The battery lasts for more than 6-7 hours, it weighs around 1.2kg and the keyboard is perfect. The 14 inch monitor is more than enough. I switched from a 17 inch Dell and I am not missing it at all. I bought this for 500 euros including shipping.

I also work remote from a small northern Greece town and I would also totally recommend Crete. It is an island but it is pretty big and the weather is the best you can get in Greece. If you enjoy crowded places then you should look on Thessaloniki that has 1 million population and has the best night life in my opinion. There are also often flights to other parts of Greece and decent connection to most European cities. Also Chalkidiki is like 1 hour away by car and you can get the best beaches in Greece.

Open orders are actually transactions that have been made to the smart contract. It is possible to monitor the smart contract and get informed on all the open orders.

I just updated EtherDelta Guard to version 1.1.149 that switches from md5 to sha256 which is secure.

This is why I love HN, people are really helpful and get straight to the point without any fuss.

When etherdelta deploys - they call a script of mine that calculates the md5 of their files in github and creates automatically a new version in Chrome Web Store.

I use my plugin whenever I visit etherdelta so I can be sure that their deployed version matches the one on github.com

If you walk down the street you will see literally hundreds of people owning it as an asset. BTW - it even has a high degree of utility as an asset because it cannot be tampered or destroyed. Also - it has some real life uses (Everledger, MiVote etc.) And yes, it's highly speculative. Imagine the first people using gold as a currency - crazy right?

Yeah it is probably Zimbabwe that helped bitcoin increase in value. A country that has 16 billion GDP and $600 GDP per capita [1] Even if all the people in Zimbabwe tried to buy bitcoin that day, the value of bitcoin would remain the same.

Bitcoin is not completely anonymous. The discussion is not only about Bitcoin or PoW. We found a way to do transactions that nobody can tamper with. We managed to solve a really serious problem and this is that when money is involved people get greedy and corrupt. No human being should be in a high enough position to steal money or tamper the transactions or commit fraud. It is so obvious that distributed ledgers are a solution to this and it disappoints me that the HN community cannot see it.

Many people on HN are so negative in bitcoin that it seems that they are focused on the tree instead of the forest. This technology can solve the main problem human society faces and this is corruption. Human greed is what keeps bitcoin alive but this is not a bug, it is a feature.

Completely control on the people spending it. Government will be able to put taxes on the people and no one will be able to hide their earnings. Also I suppose it would be much cheaper than circulating paper money.

Yes, tell that to Greek citizens that were buying houses for 300k and now their value is less than 100k for the same house. Real estate is not a store of wealth, this has been proven many times in the past in several countries. I agree though that the prices on real estate are more stable than any cryptocurrency.
