luthiers, often must wait until the instrument is finished before they can hear how all their hard work will sound.

My father is a luthier, and while he definitely needs to wait until the instrument is finished to hear the full sound, he also uses multiple techniques on parts of an unfinished violin to hear *some* sound. For example, he knocks on the top or back plate and listens to the sound it makes.

I don’t know how much of it is just voodoo, but he’s been doing it for 50 years, so I’m sure he noticed some correlation to the final sound by now. :) I'll have to ask him.

Alright, I did some quick research and it seems that they do sometimes pay full first year of sign-on bonus, which you need to repay (prorated). I didn’t see that that during my time at Amazon.

Sign-on bonus is prorated and payed monthly, you definitely don’t need to pay back anything (source: I worked at Amazon).

Maybe your friend talked about relocation bonus, which you need to pay back if you don’t work long enough.

The back-loaded vesting schedule is such blatantly cynical bullshit;

I don’t understand the complains about it. Amazon pays monthly cash ”sign-on bonus” in the first two years, which is ~ equal to the stock that you get in the years three and four (counting at the grant price). Is this fact not advertized well enough?

I have Air Purifier 3H, and with an old filter it displays big red “0%” most of the time, instead of showing PM2.5 level. Which is annoying.

And the filter works effectively a few times longer than what is displayed (at least according to the PM2.5 sensors on the same device).

NATO does not want a member country directly on the Russian border

There are already two NATO countries directly on the Russian border. Four if you count Kaliningrad. Five if Finland joins.

Edit:

I’ve looked at the map and it turns out Norway also borders Russia, so +1 to all the calculations :)

On Smoking 5 years ago

If you didn’t actually inhale smoke, than it is hard to feel anything.

If you did and you did not see any immediate physical effects, than good for you (as it was really hard for you to get addicted).

When I smoked, even after a few years of smoking, first cigarette a day, or a cigarette after a few hours of break, would have quite dramatic effect on me - buzz/dizziness, increased heart rate, and feeling lightly stunned.

Note that I tried vaping (at the same time as I was smoking) and I felt almost nothing comparing to cigarettes - I got “better” results with snuff tobacco than with vaping.

I don’t think it is fair to compare it to Ghost of Tsushima or RDR2.

Both games have worlds that are mostly empty, with few buildings here and there. As far as I remember, RDR2 dropped to ~25FPS in Saint Denis on my PS4 just after launch (not sure now), and Saint Denis is tiny comparing to Night City.

I wonder if this thread will cause an alarm on one the linked pages due to too high number of bad requests (and will make some poor employee investigate it on Sunday).
